Mucus coming up
I have it
I think if you are constantly coughing up mucus then it's worth further examination. Have you asked your GP to send off a sample? There are countless possibilities of what the cause might be, some related to asthma, some not & others indicative of developing complications. A sputum sample would be a good starting point for a discussion about how to tackle it.
That’s pretty much my life these days. It feels like coughing up jelly, usually in the morning, but like you said, attacks throughout the day. I suspect it’s not from the lungs, but rather perpetual bronchitis. It might even be dropping onto your way-back tongue from the sinuses. Tune in and see what your body says. But I don’t think that’s coming from the lungs.
Definitely not a good ongoing situation. Phlegm is not doing your lungs any favours over time.
I agree you should get a sputum test done. Get the right treatment to clear and check on keeping any post nasal drip under control (steroid nasal spray).
Phlegm can lead to infection which can lead to damage. So important to get on top of it.
I have this all the time and it's a real nuisance. I think mucous production is common in asthma and COPD, which is how I was originally diagnosed with both. I find the inhaler does nothing for that, and have tried montelucast, which is the standard treatment for mucous in asthma. I find it makes me tired, so use N-Acetyl cysteine (available from health stores); not sure it really works, but worth a try. For thick mucous, doctors prescribe carbocysteine, but I'm not at that point yet.
