Hi

Do you use a spacer? I know that’s one of the best ways to stop thrush from inhalers from occurring...

It’s definitely worth giving your GP a call... if you tell them your struggling with your asthma they should see you that day... maybe you need a short course of steroids to settle everything down, maybe carbocisteine will help (helps break down mucus) or maybe you have an element of post nasal drip going on an a nasal spray will help... as I said definitely worth seeing someone. If you’re still not sure try giving the AUK helpline a call and see if they have any suggestions.

Hope that helps

The other option is trying DPIs (powder) instead of MDIs (sprays). Some find that makes a difference.

Also nasal rinse may help with the gunk from that area... it’s horrid (esp initially) but it can help

Also if it helps AUK have a Whatsapp messenger number if that would help...

Good luck

You could try STERIMAR nasal spray to dilute and wash out the mucus from your nose. It's just a seawater spray with no medication. Then not just swill your mouth but gargle too. I do it 3 times just to make sure. Too get rid of the thrush you have now - get some DAKTARIN, it helped me when I had it.

Hi Artforever :)

Does the Sterimar goes into the sinuses ? i know mine builds up specially after all that coughing everytime i cough my nose feels like its going to burst starts from under the eyes , im interested to know be great if it does . Daktarin is a cream right? i get thrush down the back of my throat and down which makes it sore to eat and swallow i'd think tablet form might work better not sure i've used droplets before now which didn't work give owt a try see which works but first need stop using the preventer inhalers all together and get back on track .

My Daktarin is a cream but I'm sure you can get tablets too. The STERIMAR will go into your sinuses, I used it last month quite a lot and eventually I could feel it drain through everywhere. Another tip is to look up nasal flushing when you use a Netipot, make your own salt solution and pour it into one nostril until it comes out of the other. I tried it, with a my own contraption, it can be messy haha. Try Sterimar first, it's easier. It's being advertised on TV at the moment.

The thrush must be awful.

I used to get it in my throat with Seretide and prayed it would travel downwards.

Since being put on Fostair preventer I very rarely need Ventolin and not looked back. No longer get blood blisters in my throat and no longer have exceedingly thin skin.

Two things would help, eliminating sugar from your diet (it feeds fungus) and copious amounts of plain live yogurt. Perhaps some high dose probiotic too.

Hope this helps. P

Hi Peege :)

Sadly it's Fostair i'm using and finding it the worst one i've had tried them all now either i get thrush or they burn my mouth out no matter how much i rinse my mouth after , I don't have sugar much other than in my coffee which i drink black and as for yogurts well.... sour milk is all i can smell and taste same as milk yuk! lol then of course yogurts and milk soon makes me run for the loo . I actually found using fostair actually made my asthma worst im not sure if it's because most my like i've just purely used the Ventolin and had been ok with just that im not sure , I had an awful attack last year with the asthma went to see the asthma nurse who in turn wanted send for ambulance because my body oxygen was down to 22 me being me said i'd rather die at home did find the cause of why i had the attack i was changing a neighbours cat little every other day the clay type needless to say she has to get someone else to do it for her . I'll look up th Probiotic see if i can have it so many things i can't use due to other health problems . Thank you for your help :)

I'm so sorry, just shows how different we all are.

Mould, damp, strong chemical pongs are my triggers so I can avoid them fairly easily....I now consider myself very lucky.

Years ago when i had candida i had to exclude sugars including fruit & yeasty foods, I've never felt so well in my life.

There are are some foods which contain narural pre & probiotics. If I can find where I read that I'll let you know here. P

Sorry to hear about your problems. Try rinsing your mouth with lemon juice or salt water or organic apple cider vinegar. An antifungal med might help. Also, do take vitamin C, it boosts your immune system. Good luck

I do rinse with salt water not every time but at least once a day but the thrush is mainly down my throat pretty hard to rinse down there that's mainly the problem :(

Hello :-)

Just reading your post and having the same issues

I had pneumonia in Feb and since then they say I am Asthmatic since then given 2 inhalers one Fostair which is giving me dreadful thrush and yes down my throat

I was put on some drops not cleared it up and then she prescribed a tablet for the thrush

Well took that and within a few hours felt I could not breath my chest went so tight so won't be taking any more of those !

Going back today to see what's next and I get a stuffy nose to always had that problem though

It gets you down I know , I am sick of it , I rinse my mouth but like you say hard to get to the throat

I wonder why they can't try me on another inhaler to see if it gives me less thrush but they seem to want me on this one !

Have you found the answer yet how to cure this thrush if you do let me know and by versa :-)

Hope you are feeling a little better :-)

Take Care x

I use Bricanyl as a reliever. Ventolin doesn't help me at all. It's a powder but I've been on it for years without ill effects. Are you on Seretide?
