Hi there! Does anyone still take ibuprofen even though asthmatic? I was diagnosed with eosinophilic asthma a few months ago but I never had any effects from ibuprofen before diagnosis... I m just scared to take it now!!! 😬
Ibuprofen : Hi there! Does anyone still... - Asthma Community ...
Ibuprofen
With any OTC medicine (aspirin, ibuprofen, codeine, cocodamol, paracetamol) some people have issues and others don’t. Being asthmatic only really means you’re more likely to have an issue with ibuprofen. However it is not a trigger for every asthmatic. If you’ve never had an issue before you should be ok to still take it. Hope that makes sense and helps
I rarely took Ibuprofen mostly taking paracetamol. but after having an operation I was given 400mg Ibufrofen 4 times a day for a week without any problems, I have it now and again when I have arthritic pains or toothache.
As EmmaF91 says, not all asthmatics have problems taking it, if you have used it before then you should not have any problems taking it now.
I’ve carried on taking it. My asthma nurse said to carry on taking it as I’ve never had a reaction.
As I understand it, some people are genetically predisposed to have a reaction to the likes of ibuprofen. So, in theory, if you have had ibuprofen previously with no reaction, you should still be fine to take it.
I still take it, my GP says he would rather I didn't but as I explained to the Consultant it does not affect my asthma and he is more than happy for me to take it.
I continue to take it for arthritis and I'm OK on it. Strangely I had a reaction to Naproxen which is another NSAID, so I just stick to ibuprofen and paracetamol.
Hi Sunny days1982
I have never any problem taking Ibuprofen but like you I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to continue taking it due to now having asthma.
I was assured by asthma UK nurses on their helpline that if I haven't had a reaction in the pass it would be highly unlikely I would now. So I just continue to take ibuprofen when and I need it.
I usually just use paracetamol as a painkiller for headaches.
Here is the link below for the asthma UK helpline. You can ring them and WhatsApp them with any questions or concerns. I have use the service many a time and they are brilliant.

Hope this helps.
When I take ibuprofen or paracetamol my breathing deteriorates, I start to wheeze, and my airways narrow. But I sometimes take them anyway with Ventolin, because my headaches can be bad and I fear headaches more.
