Hi i was wondering if anybody else gets severe indigestion with the white prednisolone. I usually get the red gastro resistant tablet but during my stay in hospital after my bad asthma attack they only provide the white. I exolained that i get severe indigestion with these so they gave me omeprazole to take. Does not seem to have stopoed the indigestion although not as severe. anyway off the steroids now so should settle. Was just thinking does abybody else get indigestion with the white prednisolone. The Doc told me they are cheaper than the others to produce

Hi. Yes I’ve been on steroids 35 years and doesn’t look as though will ever come off them. I get terrible indigestion if on white ones and insist on red ones. Take omeprozile all the time. Have u tried not mixing starch and protein when u have meals? I e meat but no potatoes. Bolognaise but no spaghetti. Potatoes fine but no protein with them. Let me know how u get on if u decide to do it

Yes, as soon as my rheumy started me on high dose long term Pred (for Vasculitis) she also put me on Lansoprazole too.

The 'red ones' have a coating on them, but not the white. 5mg & 2.5mg both have a coated version but not the 1's. Always make sure you eat before taking them, NEVER take on an empty stomach as this will make indigestion much worse. Ask for a tablet to help, ie omeprazole, rabeprazole, lanzoprazole, notice the similarity in the names? Hope you get it sorted, it is awful

I've heard of the red ones but only ever had the white ones. I'd wondered what the difference is. If the only difference is that the red ones are more gentle on the stomach why are the white ones manufactured or prescribed at all? Why choose to give medication with side effects when there's a kinder alternative 🤔

Pred is often called the devil's tic-tacs and we all know why!!

Red is enteric coated (and tastes a lot less foul than white). There is some query about if red is less effective than white and if it does actually make much difference protection wise... that along side being a lot more expensive is why most people don’t get them unless they ask... and even then it’s usually only the long term users who will get them...
