Whistle sound

My son is 2 and a half and I hear this whistle sound from his nose when he sleeps I always worry as if it’s asthma he has been treated for it but been fine but I can’t hear anything from his chest etc I’m probably being so paranoid but when he breathes out I here a little snore whistle from his nose/mouth 😪 I’m I being totally over anxious or is this something related to the asthma?!

Chances are this is totally normal !

Asthma , as I expect you know , is a restriction of the airways in the lungs that reduces their capacity and makes breathing difficult . This is then usually followed by severe coughing to clear the mucus that the lungs have produced . If your child is waking up with clear breathing and no cough I don't think you have much to worry about !

Thankyou! So much I was just wondering if the sound was linked he doesn’t wake through the night or cough recently since starting 100mcg of the preventer inhaler

Hello this is a slightly different thought but only because it happened to my young niece - is it possible he has stuck anything up his nose? She put a small bead up her nose. It was quite easy to see and remove, but if the whistle is a new noise you might want to ask the GP to check his nose is clear. At night time their muscles are more relaxed, breathing slower, and they are lying down and this might be why it happens then.

I am a nurse I have checked his nose and there isn’t anything in there thankfully lol! It’s a very light whistle like nothing I’ve heard before he does snore but I’ve only heard this whistle sound recently but his nose is clear at the moments that’s why I was wondering if it was asthma related I wasn’t sure if it was normal I’ll maybe mention to the GP about it when we go back got his review if inhaler thank you though for that

It could be his adenoids that are slightly enlarged esp if he’s had a virus recently

Yeah he had a viral thing going on around 3 weeks ago and slight cold the now so maybe it is that too, just I think when it’s ur own child you worry a lot worse 😂 like oh is the asthma I’ve never really experienced Paediatric asthma so trying to be vigilant of anything as it scares me

2 off my grandsons have inhalers the eldest is 2 and has had his since he was under one due to constant chest infections and the other is one and has had one for a month now but the drs don’t think they’re asthmatic although it does run in the family in some form or another 😟

That’s strange isn’t it my son has a review with GP soon to see how inhaler has been working etc but yes only had a few episodes he’s not had chest infections before or coughing during night etc before just wheeze on a few occasions

It’s hard as a mum to know what to do esp as you don’t want to come across as a worrier .i know my daughter worries about it esp as at times some drs she’s seen have made her feel silly and time wasting but just go with your gut instinct you know your child best hun x
