Mepolizumab - Child

My soon to be 6 year old may be going onto mepolizumab injections every month starting in the autumn. He has severe eosinophilic asthma and his very good respiratory consultant has exhausted all other avenues for treatment.

My son has very high Ige and very high eosinophil count.

Has anybody else got a child on this mepo? How has it worked? Any side effects?

I am really hoping this will be a "wonder drug" and will cut down our frequent hospital admissions.

My son started injections at 17 and it turned his life around. Sorry, I know that’s probably not a lot of help but I wish you and your son all the best.

Meant to add that my son had no side effects. It really was a ‘wonder drug’ for him.

Thank you for your reply. I really hope that this will help with reducing the daily asthma and allergy symptoms, although it will be a nightmare as my son is very needle phobic.

Try to distract him during the injections. My son didn’t find them painful. But if they work it really is a wonder drug.

We went through an absolutely awful time with our son’s asthma from toddlerhood so I really sympathise with you.

All the best.
