I have completed a course of Doxycycline as I had a slight chest infection. I have noticed that I have sore ribs today but my asthma is fine and stable like it is always. I am not sure if I should go and request some prednisolone to help me recovery from my bruised ribs.

Have you been coughing lots? Definitely try a hot water bottle and pain killers if you haven't already and if they are still very painful tomorrow it's best to get them checked out. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the kind wishes of me getting better soon

It's always worth getting symptoms checked out, but prednisolone is an anti-inflammatory, so might not really help that much if what you have is a muscle strain from coughing. If your asthma feels OK, then maybe just try painkillers for a day or two (ideally not aspirin or ibuprofen).

Hope you feel better soon.

I am not sure on how I bruised my ribs. When I cleared my infection as I had to throw it up I jerked. I can't get in a comfortable position. I am taking my painkillers I was given for a different medical issue I have and it's not touching it. Thanks wishing me better soon.

I have pulled muscles across my chest many a time from coughing. The first time it happened, I honestly thought I was having a heart attack it hurt so much! Obviously, you should check it out if you're unsure, but I think there's a strong chance it is just a muscle strain.

It is on right side of my back at the base of my ribs (I believe) near my spine I have the discomfort. I have tried to sit in a comfortable position. I have tried to lie down as I felt a bit weak from my meds for the infection and it just killed.

OK well it's hard to say then - it could still be a pulled muscle but if painkillers don't shift it, or you are worried then definitely have a word with the GP. I know you can't really say but I've had a few nasty pains & they generally turn out to be muscular...but don't take any chances!

I am on my highest dose of my painkillers. I am going to my doctor's Thursday for a check up. As I am in a lot of pain. Hopefully it's nothing serious. But of course you can never risk asthma or COPD. I have been lucky enough I was able to control my asthma and keep it controlled

I treated my sore ribs in same situation with muscle heat rub (non smelly), as I'd had this before in same circumstance, and it was muscular strain, also place hot water bottle at different points around ribs (not burning), at night and improves within a day.

Also saw my oesteopath another time as manipulation relieved the awful chest constriction caused by coughing so much (& effect of meds), and allowed great release of pain whilst improving my breathing.

Prednesolone is a steroid to be used as anti inflammatory for lungs and too much not good for system, so I try other things first but GP is there to advise.

This is why I put this request out for help as I wasn't sure. I was only given Doxycycline on its own when I get prednisolone also I don't want to disturb my gp's unless I had to regarding this

Hi Camilla22, I found that hot baths, massage and physio therapy, together with regular pain relief, are good at aiding muscle repair. Only take steroids if you’re having trouble breathing or you want to stay up all night! Take care Ex

I had a course of Doxycicline and it was very good, my infection has cleared up but there is still congestion on my lungs they have given me a course of Prednisolone which I have started this morning.

Also have to have blood tests, chest x ray.

If you think you still need help see your doctor.

I was informed that I had clear lung's nothing wrong expect a minor infection. The nurse believed I didn't need any extra support. I only noticed the bruised ribs yesterday as I was getting a massage to breath a bit easier as I had a bad reaction to my intolerance to new pollen. I don't have hayfever just an annoying intolerance to new pollen

Go and request medical guidance. 😀

Looks like my bruised ribs has healed up. I found 40mgs of prednisolone and took that last night. I am still watching out for any changes

I have not seen a doctor because I was about to go and get checked Wednesday day after I noticed it and there was nothing. No discomfort no nothing
