Too much Seretide? Lower back pain Left + Right

Is it possible that my Seretide 250 inhaler 3 puffs am & pm could be causing lower back /kidney aches? If tried lowering to 2 puffs twice a day but then I’m reaching for ventolin. Is anyone else on a high dose like me?

I am on seritide 500 2 puffs twice a day and yes I get the same pains they go away when I don’t take my inhaler so I took it as a side effect.

What is the 500 Seretide ? Is it an inhaler?

Mmmm I wonder how may others experience this pain too? Sometimes it’s really painful😩

Yes it’s an accuhaler as my peek flow is 150-200 max

It’s worth talking to your doc about this. Maybe email your consultant if they’re good? :) it could be nothing, but I’ve noticed that, when I increase my prednisolone dose, I have considerable lower back pain and it’s something I intend to bring up at my clinic appointment.

As a side Q: how come you’re on 3 puffs twice a day? I’m assuming your asthma doc weighed up risks and benefits and obviously the steroid amount is right, but as you probably know Seretide is a combination inhaler, and the other part of the inhaler, the long-acting reliever, is usually not supposed to be taken in a higher dose, of that makes sense. I’m just wondering how come you’re using 3 puffs of that, rather than 2 puffs of Seretide and 1 additional puff of just the steroid :) not criticising, I’m sure there’s a good reason for it

Good point!!

I see a respiratory specialist in Sydney. I have been working with both him and my GP. I rang the pharmacy to see if this was a practise that they’d seen before and they said yes.

Over the last two days I have been trying to reduce the Seretide to 2 puffs twice a day. Both the specialist and GP says to trial it going down in dose I need more ventolin or there are strong triggers that effect my airways like bush fire smoke today or windy weather & ventolin is a must. It’s a constant balancing act. Seretide is the only combo inhaler that I haven’t had a reaction to. I’ve been on it for 5 or 6 wks at the high dose and it’s working but to keep me off prednisone but maybe it’s effecting my adrenal glands ???

I haven’t taken the Seretide for 3 days, well this will be day 4, but I also have Spiriva and Ventolin. I seem to be getting side effects from something and thought it must be the Seretide because Spiriva doesn’t contain a steroid (as far as I know?) and I thought it’s the steroids that cause the problems. But now I’m not sure which is the culprit. I’ve been having a strange numb sensation in my knee and foot, as if it’s swollen but it’s not, and real pain in my wrist and ankle that wakes me up. 🙁 Also I’ve been having stomach issues. I don’t know if these can be side effects? Also I wonder if having these various inhalers can combine to cause different side effects than taking just one or the other inhaler. I don’t know that any one of these inhalers is supposed to have such effects, but maybe individually they don’t, but in combination they can have side effects not listed on the leaflet. Unfortunately I started Seretide and Spiriva within about a week of each other around the middle of September having been changed from Fostair. If just one or the other had been new I’d be better able to judge which is causing the problems. Or maybe my body’s just falling apart 😂

What is spiriva used for? I’m not sure we have it here in Australia. Maybe there’s a different name ?

I don’t actually know what Spiriva is for. The active ingredient is Tiotropium. I was told I need to take it alongside Seretide but it didn’t occur to me to ask why or what it does.
