Hi everyone,

As an intro, I’m an Aussie who visited the UK last Christmas and caught the Aussie Flu. 10 months on I’m still recovering from pneumonia, pleuracy and now I’m apparently an asthmatic as well...

I’ve been struggling with systemic problems due to prednisone & now high dose steroid inhalers.Alvesco, Symbicort and now I’ve been put on Seretide 250/50. This is my last option apparently??? I need a high dose to be able to function but my body just doesn’t copy with extreme side effects. I’m on Seretide just to see if my body will accept this new type of inhaler. Has anyone else had experience of being so very sensitive to steroids inhaled or oral? If all else failed for you, what did you end up doing? I am a clean eating person trying to get better no matter what. My GP did mention that there may be auto immune medications if all else failed but he didn’t seem too positive... and my resp spec is away for a few months. HELP

There are more combination inhalers on the market than seretide... I'm not sure what's available in Australia but in the uk there is

Fostair

Duoresp (identical to symbicort but a few of the other ingredients are different)

Revlar elipta

I'm sure there are others and there's always the mix and match option if you can get your gp to agree to it.... this is separate long acting bronchodilator and steroid... which they don't like doing because of the risk of the patient omiting the steroid element

You might try talking to a dietician about your clean eating option in case you're missing something out. And go easy on yourself: of course it is good that you are doing all you can to get better, but don't push yourself too hard. Be happy!

Below is a list of stuff you or your GP may already have considered (or may not be a good ‘fit’) though (maybe) worth looking into.

Application for a Clinical Trial for a Biological, or - if like around 55% of Asthmatics, your Asthma Phenotype is Eosinophylic - possibly a stage 3 Trial for dexpramipexole, which is being assessed as a possible alternative to Oral Steroids. Gather the safety data for dexpramipexole is already established as a result of earlier ALS use Testing, but final Phase trials still need to be completed.

Fevipiprant is another drug being trialed that you might be able to wangle a place on a Trial for (if a bit of online research leads you to think it might help)

Steroids delivered intravenously (as an alternative to Oral) ‘might’ be a possibility

Certain Antibiotics (used prophylactically) are showing promise for Asthma Treatment as their mode of action is very different from other Antibiotics, example Azithromycin and similar macrolide Antibiotics.

All just stuff to research / consider, as I’m not a Medic and have no knowledge of your Asthma Type / Case History

Hope you feel better soon.
