Switching from Seretide to Sereflo?

Is it likely that I would be able to switch from Seretide 125/25 to Sereflo 125/25? How easy would it be for a pharmacy to get that in, and is a GP likely to authorise it?

I've been stable on Seretide 125/25 for around 6 months now, after changing down from Seretide 250/25. Last time I was in A&E with an asthma attack was over a year ago now, and it has been nearly 2 years since my last life-threatening attack. I can't see any reason why Sereflo -- which is nearly half the price of Seretide to the NHS -- would not be suitable but I don't know!

I tried switching from Seretide 250 to Sereflo but it didn’t work for me...I had very bad headaches and my asthma less well controlled, so returned to Seretide. My husband on the other hand has changed from Seretide to Sereflo with no problems.

Maybe give it a try, we’re all different. Your asthma seems to be in a good place for now, so it might be a good time to try a change.

That was my thinking! I was kept on Seretide even when Seretide was being phased out -- the hospital had to apply for approval -- as it was the only thing that was available at the time that worked for me, and then we didn't change it because why change a good thing? But changing from an expensive brand to a cheaper 'generic' might be acceptable. I have an asthma review at my new GP practice on the 5th of November so..hopefully!

Hi my daughter was on seretide and it had some unpleasant side effects. Had read on another site also that seretide was not being prescribed. Did the hospital have to apply for approval to prescribe it and when was this. Thanks

Yes, Seretide isn’t being prescribed generally but it still is for some people. The hospital did have to apply, from what I understand, and this was about two years ago because I had tried the other options available at the time and none were as good for me as Seretide

Sorry! I didn’t download the app and forgot to check my notifications. Yes, in many places they have been phasing it out for asthma patients for a while. It is a good option for some people though; what were you on before?

Before Seretide (and Spiriva) I was on Fostair which didn’t work for me at all. I had different inhalers before the fostair too. But the most recent one before the current inhalers was Fostair.
