Chest infection ...again ...
I'd go straight back, that happened to me the other year, just nicely got over infection, finished antibiotics and within the month I had another chest infection which turned out to be pneumonia which took a long time to get rid of and to recover from.
It happens to me all the time.last winter , all the winter I was like that ...did they give you something different as treatment ? By the way , I’ve just called the asthma nurse, but no answer just the “ leave a voice message option “... I called the asthma nurse this time because the doctor (specialist) told me to do so when I have again chest infection , instead of calling the Gp ..
Off the top of my my head, 3 lots of antibiotics, two the same one different I think, and 3 lots of steroids.
Hopefully the asthma nurse will get back to you soon then, fingers crossed
Definitely go back to Asthma Nurse or GP.
I would contact my doctor as the infection might not be cleared properly , he would examine you if needed would give you another dose of anti biotics this type of thing happens often .
Hope you get better soon. Rosemary.
Often found that it takes a couple of weeks of antibiotics and Pred to shift a stubborn infection. Of course, it seems to be mostly ‘virus’ infections that plague Asthmatics, and (as I’m sure you already appreciate) antibiotics don’t help with viruses, only bacteria.
However, a longer course of Pred with a tapered dose step-down maybe something your Doc might decide to try.
You could also badger for an advanced blood test to try and pin down exactly what bug is infecting you.
My antiobiotic script is usually for Doxycycline, but the Docs only tend to prescribe the antibiotics to counter ‘weakened immune function’ that results from their prescribing of Pred (rather than to fix an infection you’ve presented with). Although the antibiotics will occasionally help on the odd occasion when the infection is bacteria rather than virus.
I went today and spoked with asthma nurse.they give me prednisilone 8 tablets-5 mg/each-7 days ; they took blood sample, sputum sample , back of throat sample and inside nose sample.the nurse told me she will call me if they find any infection and if I need antibiotics ...now I am on the “wait and see” method..
