Hi, I’ve been sporadically breathless lately but doesn’t feel like my normal asthma. I’ve taken my inhaler but all it’s doing is loosening phlegm and making my voice hoarse. I take salbutamol but think it may not be working any more? Any thoughts

Breathless but no wheeze
Well JJC999, This Weather Seems To Be Wreaking Havoc With All of Us Sufferers, i Have the Window Wife Open & Fan’s On Constantly! I’ve had Asthma for 53yrs and I Never Get a Wheeze, Abscence of a Wheeze Means Nothing, for Some Asthma Sufferers, as Were All Different & Our illnesses Also Present Very Differently, When I’m Really Bad I Have No Wheeze, My Breathing Just Becomes Very Shallow. So YR Asthma is Definitely Playing Up. You Seem as if You Need a Little Extra Medication To Support You Through This, How About Predinisolone That Always Seems To Help Me. You May Need a Short Hospital Addmission, Especially if You Get Really Bad & Nothing’s Helping, The Royal Brompton Heart & Chest Hospital is Amazing, I Think it’s on Fulham Palace Rd? Or is That St Thomas’s. Anyway You Can Google the Address, it’s in London, I Know That, I’ve Been There 3 Times Over the Years, You May Need a Rest & Some Time On Oxygen & Ventolin Nebules, Do You Have a Portable Nebuliser? That Helps a Lot, Hope This Helps? 😊 Sonique 58
I had different symptoms last night, my peak flow dropped drastically which it doesn't usually (not by that much anyway), I was wheezing which I don't usually, was noticeably visually having to work harder to get breath in and out (the straw analagy, but with tissue paper in the straw too!!!) , and a cough, but no tightness in my chest and no itchy feeling that I normally get. Odd 🤔
What other meds do people use other than salbutamol and beclamatasone
I use Bricanyl Dry Powder Turbohaler for my reliever
Have you checked your peak flow? I was having breathing problems and my reliever wasnt working as normal, when I checked my peak flow it was barely different from normal. I was having trouble getting air into my lungs, the GP was sure it wasnt asthma causing my problems.
See my earlier posts and how I thought my asthma was getting worse but in fact I was hyperventilating without knowing and that feels like tight chest and lack of breathe although never mucus
I have had this recently and it turned out it was anxiety, not my asthma. Does your reliver make you feel much better? Mine wasn't making much difference which was making me panic more.
It had stemmed from a string of chest infections making my asthma worse and making me feel really low, then I just kept getting tight chested and breathless and a burning sensation in my chest. The more I thought about it, the worse I felt, I was getting myself worked up when I was alone with my toddler thinking I might have an asthma attack and pass out and she would be on her own.
Could be completely different but thought I'd mention it in case you hadn't thought of it and anything was similar for you.
Hope you feel better soon,
Becky.
Idea to check your iron blood panel maybe ?
Low iron = low oxygen = breathlessness. Hubby said his breathlessness felt different to his asthma, we eventually did our own at home blood tests and found his iron bloods were under range.
