On the day of your assesment be at your worst other wise if you can get up dress yourself move around and not in pain you probably won't get it they are getting really strict these days I've got 3 friends who were turned down who are poorly and really need it hope you get on ok good luck
I went to one years ago and I went as I have mental health issues and I didn't get enough points, I have got to apply again as my health is very bad, been told if u can dress, go to toilet and wash then I wish you luck x my social worker said that mental health is in the head not on the outside, let me know how you got on x
I have appointment tommrow not looking forward to it as bet it will get turned down as dont have the same hospital support since coming back to my local 😣
Thanks everyone for the warning I guess I doubt I will get it but if you don't ask you don't get
I have about 3 elements to mine
Brittle asthmatic
Anxiety
And tremors
I also get acid reflux but that I don't think is element.
It's worth a try isn't it because my consultant wants me to eat healthier and get out and about and exercise well that all can cost money and getting back and forth to hospital appts also adds to the cost
Keep the stories coming in folks it's interesting to me to those who have had pip and what their actual assessment was like and also people's opinions on it
Hi I got awarded pip in 2016 as I had just come out of a coma with life threatening asthma / sepsis/ pneumonia/ also have acid reflux sciatica/ ptsd / and arthritis I haven’t got to go back now till 2021 good luck Erin001 fingers crossed u get it x
I'm not that bad but I've had about 18 ambulances out since January and at least half of them involved being admitted
But I know I'm not the worst asthmatic in the world but it affects my every day life and I'm not old either I'm a young college student who feels as if their 90 years old with asthma getting in the way. I find things so much harder than my peers and I know I'm not the worst but someone suggested me to try and so if I don't ask I don't get
It affects all aspects of my life, going out is hard because so many things can trigger or make me breathless. Due to attacks and appts being so frequent it makes plans harder not knowing when the next attack will occur. It makes me nervous going out not knowing.
I also have tremors which affects me too, it makes handwriting hard and extremely painful at times. As I want to be a nurse tremors aren't the most handiest of things to have
Sorry long reply
Hope your okay now, and may I ask how PIP is helping you??
Hi Erin001 Ano was not nice what I’ve been through as I have 4 children and am only 40 myself but with all them hospital admissions I think u have a good chance good luck keep us updated xx
Hi erin. I had a p.i.p assessment ten days ago. I was only in for 25 mins. I took a supporting letter from my GP. I didn't really get examined she just asked me to move my hands and raise both knees while sitting down. She didn't take my peak flow of anything. I asked her was i supposed to have that done but she said she didn't need to. She just asked how far I could walk. How much help i needs getting dressed etc. And did I use any aids to help me. I haven't got any disability aids but I had an assessment at home today and I am getting some. They are giving me a wheelchair for when my asthma is really bad. A walking frame and a back rest for bed etc. I don't know if I should write to pip assessors and tell them this now? Or wait in case I don't get anything and go to an appeal.
I think it would be worthwhile you contacting them directly to ask how you can make sure that they receive this extra information. Make sure you send it by Special Delivery and with Proof of Posting so you can be sure it has been received and keep a copy for yourself. The decision maker should consider the assessor's report alongside all the info on your form and any other evidence you have sent. Good sources of advice in addition to CAB (if you still have one in your area) are the Benefits and Work website (although you need to be a paid member to access the full guides-some health charities have membership) and if you are on Facebook there are several helpful groups such as 4 Up and DPAC who have helpful and experienced moderators who can give speedy advice. They are closed groups but becoming a member is easy. Just one word of warning though as people often only use such groups when they are having bad experiences they may make you feel overly pessimistic about your own situation if you read too much. The whole benefits area is a difficult one and can be trying to say the least to be involved in but the support if you can get it can make such a positive difference to your life it is definitely worth pursuing. I am a humble claimant not an expert at all but these are things I have learnt through going through these processes many times. Good Luck x
