Going on a tiring trip! Any suggestions of what to do or take so I can enjoy myself and keep up??

Hello 😊

Today at school they informed that we will go on a 3 day trip. So the schedule is really tiring and it involves a lot of walking pretty much all day. Problem is I can't even walk a minute... Do you maybe have any suggestions about what I could do or have with me so I won't be totally breathless, coughing and tired on these 3 days and enjoy myself ??

Thank you in advance! 😊

You can dose yourself up before you go, but really you need to talk to the leaders of the trip to see what you can and cannot do.

Depends where they are walking. For instance if they are walking around a town or museum you can see if there is someway that you can take lots of short breaks especially if there is somewhere you can sit. Maybe catching up with them later on if you know what route they are taking and the timetable. If you find walking any distance difficult normally you might ask your GP for an Occupational or Physiotherapy assessment, perhaps even to use a wheelchair. It may seem drastic but a lot of people who can physically walk but are prevented from walking far by ill health use them. Something a lot of people are unaware of.

As Chrissie has suggested start by talking to the leaders of the trip so that you know what is planned and they know about your limitations.

Obvioulsy in terms of planning how you manage your health condition you might want to talk to your GP or asthma nurse?

Hope that you manage to enjoy it without adversally effecting your health, that is important too.

I bought a portable nebuliser which can fit In your pocket if that helps. Mini mesh neb by healthcare world for about £40. Speak to your dr for advice you need to enjoy yourself😊✈️

Have you ever used a nebuliser which plugs into the wall or been in hospital and had salbutamol or other medication via a mask and canister. This is a hand held version which runs off lithium batteries and is charged via computer or iPad ect but is small enough to be in your pocket. Healthcare world is the company name and it's a mini portable nebuliser. I'm unsure what medication you use or your condition it was just a handy item to have if you need treatment on the go. I took it to Iceland for walking or cold weather but have a crap chest at the minute and it's next to me to use immediately. Works well. Hope this makes sense 😊

Thank you for explaining but I wanted to also ask about the difference with inhalers... I mean does it work better or faster etc ??

Thank you in advance!

10 puffs of ventolin is equivalent to 1 x 2.5mgs nebulised salbutamol (ventolin) usually in emergency situations. As I've said I don't know what you take or your condition maybe worth talking to your dr or asthma nurse before your trip and they can put you on the right path so you have a trouble free happy trip😊

Just thought!!! how about an electric scooter or wheelchair to help you. Ask health professionals they will advise you 😊

Yes i have thought about it but I don't have one and I can't afford one so I don't know is it possible that the hospital could provide one for a couple of days??

Unsure about hospital but you can hire them. I don't know how old you are or your condition but many charities help also. I'm sure for a few days someone local may lend you one. Try disability shop for rates😊
