Ugh hayfever!

I never thought I would say I missed the cold weather until the pollen count jumped up to high today!

I’ve been coping ok(ish) this week, a bit of trouble at night but bearable! And then last night was up most of the night needing salbutamol and today can’t move anywhere without the wheeze rearing it’s ugly head... I’m not quite at the point where I need to be in hospital but it’s just so annoying - normally I’m quite well from January until the hayfever season as long as I don’t catch infections but thanks to all the bugs around that didn’t happen this year.

Also had my latest appointment with difficult asthma this week, sadly still no biologicals for me and they’re at a bit of a loss with what to do as I don’t tend to have lots of inflammation, just a ton of bronchospasm!

But lots of tests to try and get to the bottom of it, plus a referral to immunology as I have low IgG - they’re just not sure if it’s always been there or if it’s from the steroids.

Still, we’re getting there and unravelling the puzzle bit by bit! Hope everyone else is well 😊 x

Hi, im really similar to you! I’ve had tests and no signs of inflammation. But loads of times where I’m wheezing / coughing etc and only relieved by loads of steroids tablets. As on fostair 200 & qvar 100 as well other tablets, carboceisteine. Although weirdly enough I’ve had ‘hayfever’ symptoms since January! Nobody is quite sure where to go with it all

Hope you get some relief soon

I know it’s so frustrating! They’ve at least finally accepted there is something weird going on with my airways - because I have pretty significant reversibility to salbutamol on spirometry even when I’m well and my metacholine challenge test was very very positive!

But I just seem to be stuck on massive doses of steroids because they don’t know what else to do at the moment.

Hope you also get some relief soon! X

Do you take antihistamines? My doctor has doubled my dose. I take one cetirizine in the morning and one in the evening, but apparently it is safe to take up to four a day (Allergy UK). It does make a difference. My friend has mild asthma with hay fever and he now takes an extra cetirizine when the pollen count is high. He goes running daily so it helps minimize his symptoms. Don't allow yourself to continue to suffer. If pollen is making you worse, see your GP and ask if there is anything they can do to help improve your symptoms. Good luck and hope you feel better soon. x

Unfortunately I’m already on fexofenadine twice a day from an allergy consultant! As well as eye drops and a steroid nasal spray 😔 and I also take the odd piriton when things are getting really unbearable!

Sorry to hear this. Hope the worst of the hay fever passes soon. Take care. x

Hopefully it will settle a bit more once my body is a bit more used to the higher pollen levels - just have to try and stay out of hospital till then! X

Didn’t succeed in staying out of hospital 😔

BUT they got ent to come check my vocal cords and they are all normal! So hopefully that will stop them saying it’s vocal cord dysfunction instead 😁

Not fun, but hopefully they will get you the right treatment soon. x

Back on my old friend IV aminophylline! Will be in for a few days but at least it should settle things x

I take aminophylline! It seems to help. Who knows, with all the new drugs I have been put on over the past year, I can't tell what helps and what doesn't! I still ended up in hospital last month, but I did have flu B. I guess I could take all the suggested drugs and I would still have gotten flu (I even had the flu jab last October!). Hope you are feeling better. x
