I was diagnosed with Asthma 5 weeks ago, and put on prednisolone, starting at 40mg per day and now tapering down, currently on 25mg per day. A week ago I developed a sore throat and it won't shift. The doctor says the steroids are surpassing my immune system and has given me antibiotics. Has anyone else on prednisolone found that its harder to shift infections, and if so how long do they take to go?

Hi Blizzard1
There's a bit of info about about antibiotics here: bit.ly/2hL46Ly
and also taking steroids that might be helpful. Some of the possible side effects of steroid tablets are lower resistance to infection and longer healing time for cuts and wounds. For a small number of people, taking higher doses of steroids lowers the body's resistance to viruses, such as colds and chickenpox. bit.ly/2rIbXkN
Do call the Asthma UK Helpline on 0300 222 5800 (M-F, 9-5) for support and advice.
Hope that helps,
