My Insurance company has just cancelled my cover for pre existing conditions of ABPA and Bronchiectasis as I have had more than 2 chest infections in one year. Never realized this was a rule. Does anyone know of an Insurance company that will cover these conditions without having to pay a fortune. Many Thanks

Insurance Cover
I don't know if there is much information on this site but I know there is on the British Lung Foundation site as it's often discussed on there.
If you go into this site and type your search criteria in the box on the right all the previous questions and answers about this will come up. Some of them will be quite old but others will be recent if you scroll through them. Good luck. x
Is that life insurance? Travel? Health? I would have thought for life insurance cover should be based on how you are when you take it out - they told me they wouldn't withdraw if things changed, but maybe that varies. Health insurance may well be different.
Legal and General are supposed to be good for lung conditions, though they wouldn't cover me for life insurance because I had too many admissions. Royal London thoight about it but said no after my GP.questionnaire.
I would try speaking to a broker who has knowledge of the market for pre-existing conditions - then you don't have to.spend ages filling in forms and they can advise on the best options.
Hi Lysistrata,
This is travel insurance. I was just updating my details with Aviva today when I was asked how many chest infections I had in the last 12 months. My reply of 3 immediately resulted in cover being removed from my Asthma, ABPA and Bronchiectasis. I was quite surprised as I am quite healthy presently but I appreciate that there is an obvious level of risk. I am now wondering where I can get insurance to cover my forthcoming holidays. Thanks for the information regarding brokers etc.
Oh that makes it a lot easier - the life insurance was a nightmare but I find GetGoing do very reasonable insurance compared with the quotes I've had from others with my asthma. It was about 65 quid for a week in the US for me compared with a few hundred elsewhere! They won't give me annual insurance now but the per trip is reasonable.
Or you could look at Medical Travel Compared. Watch out for Insure and Go and any others with their underwriters- sneaky exclusion clauses.
Very interesting indeed. I am thinking my pre existing conditions it may cost me an arm and a leg lol but lots to look into. Thanks
I have recently travelled and I googled disabled travel insurance and my insurance fair enough for 2 weeks which was all I needed at the time but I had some horrific quotes in the thousands so I did what I said typed disabled travel insurance and ask for a quote with cover for pre existing conditions I only paid £43 for the two weeks I had a great holiday without a hitch good luck I hope you find some help x
It could be worth asking Fish Insurace for a quote. I am over 70 now so travel insurance becomes rather expensive. I am on long term AB and Fish gave me a better quote than the others that I tried. When I mentioned that the BLF had suggested them, they gave me a discount.
I had mortgage insurance cover with legal and general. I declared my bronchiectasis and asthma which meant that I had to pay a higher premium due these conditions, which was fine, but when I developed tracheobronchomalacia and had to medically retire, I found out that they didn’t cover this critical illness. This insurance cover for me wasn’t worth the paper it was written on. I nearly lost my home because of this. You have to be so careful with insurance policies to make sure your not just throwing good money after bad
Gosh thats a very unfortunate situation. I do hope your still able to travel etc. Strangely despite my asthma, bronchiectasis and ABPA there was no problem with insuring these conditions. The cover was stopped simply because I had more than two chest infections in 12 months. I am presently very healthy and could probably do a 100 metres in 20 seconds lol. It makes no difference though. I had the chest infections and thats that.
It's not surprising that certain insurers will not cover you for existing conditions as it makes the risk of a claim too high, but they will still cover you for other risks if you want to take the chance. I found Moneysupermarket's website very good for including existing conditions and getting comparative quotes.
There is also a disabled version of this site who have more specific to your individual needs questions etc but it is like all things to do with insurance they don’t want to take on the high risks they want to keep premiums low and good policies I called them to make sure I was covered and made them write it into the policy also xx
Absolutely right Superzob. I am still covered with Aviva but not for my lung conditions (Asthma, Bronchiectasis and ABPA). These were covered up to yesterday but when I replied that I had more than 2 chest infections in 12 months the cover was withdrawn. This exclusion applies to everyone.
If I can remain well then the cover will be reinstated they advised me today. Now to try and find some short term cover. Will ring Fish and see how I go.
Try a company called insurancewith (quick google search) my daughter brought this company to my attention when I was first diagnosed with Asthma last year and my travel insurance went up 300 quid for USA etc. My quote from Insurancewith was 198 pounds for annual multi travel. Good luck.
