long term use of high steroid doses can lead to symptoms such as thinning skin, easy bruising, changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your face, neck, back, and waist) I have all these symptoms what can I do.

Al medications carry side effects and you have to make a choice as to what you can accept. Personally I find not being able to breathe a bit of a show stopper.... so I take the inhaler and get on with it

I am no expert, but inhaled steroids are not considered high doses. They are far lower, I gather, than prednisolone. And I agree with SiPie.

These symptoms are connected to tablets such as prednisolene, not to inhaled steroids. Some people need to be on a low dose of steroids to sustain them, but this must be reviewed regularly. If you are not taking tablets, and you have these symptoms, you should see your GP. If you are, you should have a consultant and you should discuss all this with him/her.

You only mention Clenil Modulite - the recommended maximum dosage of which is 2000 micrograms per day.

This is very little compared with the dosage of Prednisolone which is often 15 milligrams per day, which equals 15000 micrograms. This goes directly into the stomach causing many of the problems with steroids.

There certainly are problems with inhaled corticosteroids; BUT, the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.

I have been taking inhaled corticosteroids since the mid 70's, some 40 years without any obvious side effects.

I think most of us here have the experience of Not being able to breath, I am looking to see if others have the same symptoms from Clenil Modulite as I do. it has taken me almost five years to deduce that it was the culprit.

I had those symptoms on Clenil modulate 'moon face and buffalo back'

as well as it giving me really bad anxiety. where after years of battling I now know inhaled steroids increase heart rate and affect 'fight or flight'

i actually got worse with my breathing but it was wrongly put down to the cold. i tried a few more 'brands' Turns out i was being over medicated. I had to stop steroids it as I felt worse than not being able to breath.

I'm mildly asthmatic. went without all summer but had symptoms again from exposure to cigarette and pot 😓smoke on moving into new rental.

I am now trying Qvar which I am informed is a finer spray, meaning you can use lower doses. I Can barely tollerate being on steroids.

Hi Walkeveryday I was diagnosed with late onset Asthma in May 2016

Hi there, I am pleased to get your response, I am interested in HOW you bruise yourself, with me it could just be a simple tap from an awkward angle from say a belt buckle or my dogs lead may flick and hit the back of my hand. I have caught my forearm of the lining of a jacket as I was putting it on and knew immediately that I had damaged my skin, sometimes I feel it is little better than tissue paper.

Have you mentioned this to any Drs. In my opinion it does not want to seem to be addressed.

Hi, I have multiple endocrine problems in addition to developing asthma seven years ago and have noticed I bruise at the slightest knock which I put down to other factors but it does seem to have worsened since starting the brown preventer. I only take the evening dose as I found it made me sluggish after the morning dose and I had to ask for a volumiser as it caused constant sore throats. Might be worthwhile having your endocrine levels checked as it may increase the senisitivity to the Clenil, re; bruising and skin thinning.

how often do you use the inhaler, have you been consistent, I ask because it could be relevant. Also this [ndrugs.com/?s=clenil%20modu...], which was forwarded to me by another user. I had no idea till now of these side effects, none are mentioned on the leaflet.

About the easy bruising, I spoke to two GPS and both say absolutely no problem except cosmetic. Although agree down to steroid intake and older thinner skin. I’m on Seretide 250, four times a day, with prednisolone added when asthma exacerbated. But benefits for breathing far outweigh the problems. I try to protect my arms from knocks by wearing sleeves....helps, but I’m still heard to swear when I get a slight knock or worse!

I disagree with it being just "Cosmetic", all the "fat" has gone from the back of my hands and I was not even slightly chubby, I to now mostly wear long sleeves as the patches are really unsightly.

Not what you're looking for?
