Beclometasone Inhaler

Hi everyone I was diagnosed with asthma as a child with attacks in aldulthood very rare, a couple months ago thought I came down with a chest infection that has proved very stubborn to get over and caused my asthma to resurface, yesterday my GP prescribed me with a beclometasone inhaler in an attempt to get my chest back to normal I’m hoping this will only be temporary and once fully recovered the inhaler will not be needed, first impression of the inhaler have not been favourable...does anyone have an opinion as to whether I’d be able to stop using the inhaler or not??

Hi there,

Unfavorable impression? its hard to answer your question. There are few things I would say, it can take a good while for steroid inhalers to properly kick in, at least a couple of weeks to get to full strength. Also in order to get the best benefit you need to use a spacer, and have your inhaler technique checked. This can make a major difference in the amount of drugs that actually reach your lungs.

It can take a long time to recover from a chest infection, and if things are not improving you need to go back to the doctor as there are lots of other possible treatments that might help.

Finally, Asthma does not stay same, so if you recover fully, I'm sure you will be able to stop the steroid inhaler. It takes me about 10/12 weeks to fully recover from a chest infection.

Best

Hi thank you for the reply I think you pretty much answered my question....yesterday was my first day with the inhaler which I found hard to tolerate it gave me a horrible toxic like taste in my mouth that just wouldn’t ease as well as making me feel very hot, today has been much, much better with virtually no side effects....my hope is that once the chest infection has cleared up I will no longer need to use the inhaler.
