Dear All,

I am from Hungary, live in London since March.

I have asthma since 4 years old - without any symptoms until i was 18 years old (when I stopped doing triathlon). Now my astham is getting worse and worse.Since I've been living in London i am more stressful and I have more attacks.

In the last couple of weeks I just feel my Ventolin doesnt work as it was, my attack doesnt stop after usage.

I have the following treatment: Symbicort - morning&evening, Ventolin - in case, montelukast - evening

3 weeks ago when I went to see the GP with my symptoms: I feel very week, shaking, my attack last whole day like somebody would sit on my chest and would squeeze my neck, breathing difficulties - she gave me teofilin. After few days I was better but now just have the same period. I am really afraid of what's going on - i needed to take a day off because last night was so rough. My symptoms hasnt gone away and I just didnt know if I should go to see a doctor immediately or i have a very big panic which just make it worse.

Can You recommend me a good doctor who is a specialist and who can track my condition regularly?

I live near to Gipsy Hil Station.

I would prefer an nhs supported service but of there isn't it canbe a private one as well..

I just moved in our new place and registered to the GP but she told me I need to wait 3 days before I can see the doctor because the registration needs 3 days.

Before that I had a GP in lewisham.

3 Years ago i had the same period - last for 3 months - and I had chlamydia pneumoniae - what caused these symptoms.

who can make me a test to make sure I dont have the same illness again? Do I need to ask the GP? But if i can't go to see the until Friday what should I do?

Thank You for Your advice, i am very worried because here in the UK I don't know how does it work, because in Hungary we have a totally different system for these kind of illnesses.

plus:

Does somebody have experience with Buteyko method? If Yes could You please tell me about it?

Thank You

Have a nice day!

You need to see the GP before you can get a referral to a consultant. If you are seriously unwell, i.e. Struggling to breathe, using your reliever all the time. I would call 111 or visit your local A&E.

Navigating the system here can be complicated, and if your GP does refer you, you may have to wait some time to get an appointment. As you have previously had a serious lung infection, I would write down a very careful history of your asthma for the new GP. A written document goes a long way , helps you get the best information across in the shortest possible time. And also clarifies what you want to say.

Also the Asthma UK helpline is brilliant so highly recommend you call them for advice.

On Butekeyo: there are courses that you can do. You can search on line. But they are private so you will have to pay. I have found that it does help, but certainly has not cured my asthma. The stop cough method is particularly good. As well as making sure you try to breathe through your nose.

Best

Asthma can be very serious and it sounds as if you need help. I always ring 111 or 999 if I have a bad attack, or just get to A+E if you are able. Don't ever neglect an attack for too long.

As for Buteyko, I did a course and FOR ME it was a total waste of money. Seemed it was just based on shallow breathing.
