Best advice I can offer is to contact your surgery and speak to the asthma nurse who can advise you about your inhaler as you should not be struggling gentle hugs

Hi, have you been to the GP? If not, please go to the GP or hospital & get yourself checked.

Check out my reply to Jess33.

In addition rubbing oil (olive or coconut) on your chest, back & front helps. If somebody else is doing it, they could tap your chest by forming a cup with the hand and tapping all around. Lie on your front and tap back, then do the front and the sides. This will help to loosen the phlegm. Steam inhalations help too. If you do not have blood pressure problems, eat liquorice - the black ones from liquorice allsorts are fine.

Hi Shannon, if you feel you need to use your inhaler then use it, after all you know your own body better than anyone. Please let us know how you are. Take care 😊 xxx. Bernadette

Shannon, is it a blue inhaler you have? If so, use it. It can only help, as it's a reliever.

Then, tomorrow morning first thing, get on the phone to your GP surgery and request an emergency appointment to see your doctor.

If you feel like you're really struggling for breath and the inhaler isn't working, get yourself to a&e tonight.

Good luck xxx

Hi Shannon try not to worry because you will make yourself worse try and take your blue inhaler and if it does not work go straight to the walk in

Shannon97

You'll know within minutes whether it's worked or not, as your chest pains should ease up and you'll start breathing slightly easier.

If you don't, go to a&e

It's not chest pains it's like tightness

What does it mean if it don't work then😭

If it's not getting better It might mean you need a stronger inhaler than the blue inhaler at least until you are better. Most important thing is to see your gp first thing today.

A tight chest means you are either having brochospasms or hyperventilating (more oxygen in your lungs and tissues or muscles than when there is a healthy balance with carbondioxide) or your chest muscles are tired from coughing.

I use my quick relief inhaler when my chest is tight. You should notice a chance for the better in 5-20minutes. You need to see your medical person if you don't feel any change after using it.

Try watching your breathing. When relaxed, gently breath about 15times a minute and see if that helps.

Asthma may not go away but you can avoid triggers that cause the immune reaction in asthma.

Asthma itself is an immune reaction to triggers such as cold, dust, perfumes, smoke etc.

Google "Air Way Remodelling" and "Mucus Hyper secretion in Asthma".

It is important to keep asthma under control to prevent airway damage.

I was diagnosed with asthma because I had chest tightness as one of the symptoms, so it does seem likely that it is the asthma causing it. Don't be afraid to use the blue inhaler to help it - I have been advised to use mine whenever I feel the need. Also, I get chest pains through worry, and that can be difficult to distinguish from asthma-caused chest tightness. So I suggest using the inhaler, getting a checkup and trying not to worry too much. I strongly suspect it will sort itself out, particularly as we're approaching Spring and the end of the cold season.

You need to talk to someone asap to stop all this panic. The best person is your asthma nurse or practice nurse at your GP's surgery. You can ask for an urgent appointment with him/her. As we are not medics and haven't seen you, we don't really know your condition, but worrying about it will only make it worse, so you need your worries listened to and your questions answered. There are 5 million of us in the UK with asthma and most of us manage it quite well. I'm sure you will too, once you understand it a bit better.
