Flu jabs

I am concerned that flu jabs may be the cause of some side effects over the years. I also wonder what may happen if I miss the flu jab one year? would the asthma come back with a vengeance? just worrying....is anyone having mine same worries?

I know how you feel. I am always ill for about two days after getting a flu jab. Last spring I had a particularly nasty chest infection that had me in bed for three weeks so the flu jab doesn't mean that you will have a good winter/spring. However, I am nervous about not having the flu jab in case I do catch something nasty. I don't know if there is anyway we can know for sure how effective this is. I am due to have mine next weekend (why oh why does it always fall on my birthday weekend!!!). Hopefully I don't have too bad a reaction.

It's worth remembering that, whilst cold-type symptoms can be a side-effect of the jab, this is also a time of year when colds are rife & in reality a big proprtion of apparent side effects may just be coincidental. Personally, I've never had any sort of issue.

If you miss the jab that won't in itself cause you to get asthma, nor will it stop you getting the usual 'doing the rounds' coughs & colds that can also trigger symptoms. However, if you caught genuine influenza, I have little doubt you & your lungs would know about it!

I had really bad flu on year and it knocked me of my feet for months so I take the slight temperature and snottype nose for a day or two over being on antibiotics and steroids for weeks and weeks (a secondary set of infections from the flu)

Hi asthma has nothing to do with the flu jab. You have this purely to help stop you getting flu or to ensure you don't get it badly.

Flu jab not a live vaccine. I would strongly recommend as true influenza a horrible disease that kills and can leave you with life long complications.

Having the vaccine does not guarantee you won't be ill but certainly helps reduce the risk

Hi. I've had some really bad flu 's in the past because I was afraid of side effects of the flu jab ,in the end I decided to take my chances because I would rather die of the jab then flu. I don't know what I was worried about I've never had a reaction. It's not a live vacine. I have had it for years now. I have very brittle asthma and multiable allergies and it's not effected either. My husbands had it for last 3 years because he has Ipf and he's had no side effects either. Hope this helps. Best wishes. x
