Hi I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant and asthma still seems to be bad. Constant coughing especially at night, I sound like I'm a 50 a day smoker. Drs given me blue and brown puffers which I'm taking regularly and I've also had a course of steroids but nothing seems to be helping. I went to A & E a few weeks ago and they gave me a couple of nebulizers but I get the impression because I'm pregnant Dr's can't do much more. I use gaviscon to control acid which I was told can worsen asthma. The constant coughing is really making life miserable now. Has anyone else been in this situation and what treatment was given? I'm due to see Dr on Monday to tell him it's getting worse. Any advice please would be really appreciated.

Hi, I'm currently 39 weeks and had a few incidents with asthma through this pregnancy. Do you take anything for allergies? I found that I kept getting nasal drips after a cold or when my asthma flared up which has been the cause of lots of coughing/sore throat. I found a nasal spray helped for some reason. Also, if asthma is causing you problems then has your midwife put you under a consultant for pregnancy? Mine was more helpful than gp and trusted her more about which drugs I could and couldn't take. Low dose of prednisolone was recommended at one point if things didn't settle? I guess is depends what's setting off the cough? Hope you feel better x

Thanks I will definitely speak to midwife when she returns off holiday. Have been told I can't use nasal sprays either, nebulisers helped at hospital so I'm gonna see if I can get some more. X

I had similar symptoms in third trimester but not so severe. The problem with asthma treatment is it can be a lot of trial and error till you find what works for you. If you have hay fever however slight might be worth taking an antihistamine if permitted when pregnant. I also recommend calling asthma Uk nurses. They are so knowledgeable and helpful and I've called them many times for advice and reassurance. I hope you get some help that works for you. I know how miserable it is to cough so much that your muscles hurt constantly

Thanks for the reply, I will give them a call and see what they suggest. My midwife did say that if it carry strap on she probably get me a referral. X

I was diagnosed Asthma many years ago (20) during pregnancy also found to be allergic to dairy especially milk.

Recently have been suffering with an hospital admission. This past year hasn't been so good.

I have recently had an allegory test done and found that I'm allergic to lots of things, dairy milk, cheese, in particular wheat, yeast, sugar the list goes on. On.

So I'm focusing on wheat, dairy, and sugar.

Interestingly it showed I had low Magnesium levels and low Vit D.

I'm a little confused as when you have low levels of Magnesium in hospital your given a top up but not monitored when you come home. As low levels of Magnesium makes you feel tiered. So I'm taking a supplement. Along with my other cocktail,

So maybe others should try allergy testing the younger you have this the better you may become with an readjustment of diet.

Fingers crossed I'm going to improve.

Over the years it's been impossible to get an allergy test, Dr says they don't do it. I will keep up the fight, Good luck. X
