I'm looking for some support and information. Generally my asthma is ok controlled with forstair. But for the last few weeks I've had constant feelings of needing to clear my throat a burning sensation that comes from no where In my throat and I'm up all night coughing. Its not a productive cough- Generally my asthma issues would be after a cold it would get on my chest.
I've had antacids from Drs years ago but not taken in years.
This year I've been focusing on eating healthier could a change in diet affect acid reflux?
What do I do to manage it or settle it dow . Got a Dr appointment in 2 weeks time but really don't think I can function on no sleep til then.

Certain foods certainly trigger my reflux problem. Dairy, acidic and spicy My reflux problems only happen when I am lying down. Not eating after my evening meal, eating smaller portion. I take esomeprazole twice a day and gaviscon after every meal as I have a hiatus hernia and gerd.
Maybe try smaller portions and could it be something you have started eating on your healthy eating plan? While you are waiting to see the Gp the pharmacist could help . I hope the issue is resolved soon x
Sounds very like acid reflux and the cough is because of that. The sore throat is also a symptom. I suffer from this condition. All of the above is good advice. Go to see a pharmacist and they will give you advice.
Horsey here too! I have same but since ## spine cannot lie down so propped up all time, really helps Gerd. Also, was upset to find tomatoes my favs also make Gerd worse, cough irritates throat, asthma etc. However Omeprazole can affect liver so I only take when very bad. Pharmacists seem to have taken on roll of dox lately, so ask them maybe?🤔
yes. Sounds familiar! I have changed everything I eat and now I rarely have GERD at all. No dairy at all, I can have eggs though. No processed foods. No spices or vinegary foods. I make sauerkraut now which is so helpful and I eat it every day. Lots of fruit and vegetables. No fizzy drinks. Less caffeine. Less sugar. Small portions. No eating after evening meal and have main meal of the day at lunchtime if possible. Leave a long gap between meals. Intermittent fasting can help reset your gut. Eat smaller mouthfuls more slowly. Simple foods are the best. This is just how I manage it and what I have learned helps me but some of it may help you too. I hope you feel better soon. It takes a while for the gut to heal because it took a long time for it to get upset.
I get heartburn sometimes too. Still trying to figure out my triggers. What have you been eating and when, out of curiosity. I find when my asthma plays up, it's often nighttime heartburn that is the cause. I tend to sleep on my front, which is probably the worst for this, however when I get heartburn, I sleep on my side, raised on a few pillows. It really does help. You could try a few antacids before bed temporarily, just to get some sleep, then focus on the cause. I know for sure that purple colour squash gives me heartburn! Oh and too much caffeine of course. Good luck
I have the same symptoms feel like i need to clear my throat constantly, coughing and been up all night. What helped me clear my throat was doing saline nose rinse, this has helped me and eased symptoms.
very definitely go to your doctor - I had similar and was given a well known or ton pump inhibitor ((lanzapropol) and then tried another (Omzap..) but after a referral to a gastroenterologist was prescribed Pantaprozol which did the job nicely … acid reflux is very common and easily treated - don’t delay and font accept the first one you are given if it doesn’t work and
Hello I’m having similar issues with my asthma although I don’t get the burning I feel like I have phlegm at the back of my throat and in my upper respiratory area which I cannot clear no matter how hard I cough. Im on ventolin, Fostair, montellukast and carbocesteine. I wheeze all night and cough it takes me ages to get to sleep with this condition. I have a telephone appointment with my lung specialist on the 14/2 hope he can help. I do take pantoprazole for stomach acid reflux which I have been on for years as I have a hiatus hernia. I suspect I’ve had a chest infection which is why my lungs feel clogged up. Hope you get some relief. I did take some covonia for the cough and Manuka honey with warm milk at bed time this helped me get some sleep I also rubbed vick into my chest and sprinkled oil of olbas on my pillow. Hope you feel better soon.
Have you tried a wedge pillow? It really helped me and I rarely have any problems now. You can get them online from around £15-£20. It takes a few days to get used to it (and I use an ordinary pillow on top, as I find the foam triangle too firm otherwise) but well worth the effort.
I suffer from severe GERD but it is kept under full control by a combination of Omeprasol 40mg twice a day, gaviscon advance 10mg 4 times a day, Fametadine 20mg at night. without the medication common things that effect GERD would be Acid (tomatoes, oranges etc) spicy food can effect some poeple, coffee and tea can also trigger worse GERD.
Before the medication i found that if my GERD was playing up just eating a little snack would help to give the acid something to digest
