Hi

I have had a negative histamine challenge last year but am still treated for asthma at present My skin prick tests were positive for multiple allargies.

Mine was negative to this was many years ago though and my cons just told me that my asthma wasn't very active at that time

My wife has had asthma since childhood. She didn't respond to the test, and then her doctor diagnosed her as not having asthma. This made it more difficult to get the treatments that she needed for a while until she found a doctor that knew how unreliable the test is. Her test was the methyl choline challenge.

My Dr. wanted me to do a Methacholine test, but he said in preparation for it I needed to stop taking all my medication for 7 days. I didn't think I could live 7 days without my medication. He wouldn't listen. I changed Drs. The new Dr. said even if I tested negative for the test, she wouldn't believe it.

Thanks all. My doctor wants me to come off all my (many) Meds as he thinks that it's vcd only. But that makes me pretty nervous! Been treated as a severe asthmatic for over 20 years. Don't trust tests that much! Also does anyone else get pain in their lungs when they're asthma is bad? It's good to hear of other people's experiences thank you :)

Do you know if this is the same as a RAST test?

Hi no its not the same as the RAST blood tests. For this one you are given increasing doses of histamine or methoclorine to inhale and they keep doing spirometry tests to see how your lungs cope. Hope that helps
