Hi Guys, I have recently been told that I have asthma and I seem to be struggling with managing my symptom and triggers. I’m starting to think that alcohol can be a trigger and anything with sulphites or histamines. I am interested to know whether anyone else gets triggered by these and if so how they manage this?
Thanks,
Barney

Both sulphites and histamines. I check my squash to make sure no sulphites and avoid alcohol (and even alcohol based sauces) and that’s usually the main things. It’s not just you!
Snap. I have never been a drinker, apart from champagne to toast special events and could never understand why I always got a sore throat and wheezing afterwards. So now I just avoid and am very popular as the designated driver!
I have to avoid artificial colourings and preservatives in foods, as well as a whole range of foods, including some fruits & veg. Take aways and fast foods are forbidden. Soya is a pain as it's in so many things now and animals raised for food are often fed soya.
I just think we're very lucky to have so much choice in the shops & restaurants that it's easy to find good things to eat and drink. Much more choice of soft drinks now than when I was a young adult.
Yes indeed alcohol definitely triggers my asthma as well as shellfish, strawberries or anything with sulfites like soy sauce. I try to remember to take supplements such as quercetin and extra vitamin C when I know I'm going to drink alcohol and it does help. Good luck.
