Travel insurance

Hi,

Can anyone advise me, I'm looking at travel insurance for a trip from London to New York, and it's crazy expensive all bc I have asthma, I'm used to paying about twenty pounds a trip but now with my asthma they want 260 pounds!!!

Does that make sense??

Anyone know how or where I can get cheaper insurance from?

Thanks.

If you google "travel insurance pre-existing medical conditions" you'll get lots of links both to specialist companies and also places like moneysupermarket.

A couple of useful links are:

moneysupermarket.com/travel...

moneysavingexpert.com/insur... (there's some links to specialist brokers near the bottom).

A ten-fold increase sounds a bit ridiculous but different insurance companies have different specialisms and approaches so shop around & I'd be surprised if you can't get it down significantly lower.

Thanks

I actually got that price on money saving experts.

Unfortunately bc I have had more than two admissions to hospital within the year, it hikes up the price.

But I have shopped around a bit and got a better price and will definitely look up the other site you gave me.

Thanks

It is a case of shopping around. I have only travelled to Europe where my last trip (to Malta) cost around £30. I used a comparison site to find a company with sensible prices. All the medical questionnaires were interested in the number of medications taken (not the type). Three seemed to be the magic number where quotes went up.

Yes it's costly and some airlines have medical requirements.. There used to be a paper on the Asthma UK with insurance links.. Check it out.. Good luck

From reading your further message unfortunately I think the problem really is the two hospital admissions rather than asthma per se. They will take a view that there's a chance it could happen on your trip, hence the sky rocket effect on your premium.

Hopefully though you can keep finding little knock-downs & maybe try ringing up one or two to to see if they will discount it further.

Good luck & enjoy your trip!
