I have a very dry mouth at night using my inhalers and have also read that using inhalers can cause Thrush in the mouth. Has anyone else heard this?
Hi Sharshy
I had a couple of treatments for it..you need to rinse your mouth, gargle with water and brush your teeth between each preventer puff really to avoid that problem if you are enclined to get oral thrush. I do it's a headache but it's kept me thrush free lately.

I do rinse after the steroid inhaler dont know about the blue reliever. but after all the antibiotics as well it seems to be there, might not be thrush just coating on the sides of the tongue. Any cure?
Yes rinsing is not enough sorry to be insistent Sharshy but brush your teeth with a mild toothpaste and gargle..I know it's a pain but prevention is better in the long run..
they are some meds I had to use some lethal orange looking liquid which burned the back of my throat for 7 or 10 days..I had it twice..so I get the Nelson candida homeopathic complex from the health food shop and eat live yoghurts lactic ferments so far so good..
Now the blue dries you out it's the alcohol content so I drink a lot a lot of water I must say, have honey and old fashioned boiled sweets..
And antibiotics of course you're right so probiotics are fashionable and so is the idea that good gut bacteria helps with Asthma. :)))
Wow thanks for that advice, my inhalers are turbo inhalers so dont think there is alcohol in them I hope not. what sort of yoghurts should I buy so many to choose from.
Ahhhh turbohalers i didn't like those the powder aggravated my throat, i would ask for evohalers, generic ones are out coz they changed my seretide to the cheaper version.
You have good ground.
You can find them at tesco's or sainsbury's I get the Total Fage Greek one, the simple one not fruity. I have 2 a day at the moment to build up or breakfast or lunch then in the evening
It must be written contains lactic ferments and keep them at cold temperature as indicated on the box.
The Total Fage Greek natural yogurt is the one I use as well - I take it to help with digestive issues. I combine a large tablespoon of the stuff with a soft ripe banana (no hint of green anywhere on the skin) and about a third of a pint of semi skimmed milk; stick it in the liquidiser/blender and you end up with a fabulous banana milk shake. No sugar/honey additional sweetener necessary; if the banana's ripe enough you don't need it.
Re rinsing out after using the blue reliever inhaler, I have been told I should do this by one respiratory consultant, if it is possible. Obviously it's not always easy to do that (if you're out and about in town, for example), but if you can do so then it's recommended - or it was by him.
I agree with the gargling and cleaning teeth. That's what I do after I've finished using my preventer - gargle and rinse out, clean teeth, gargle and rinse out again. I've never had oral or pharyngeal thrush, only oesophageal (not at all pleasant), and for that I had to have medication (fluconazole) but it came in small tablet form so was easy to take. The cause of the infection was (still is) disputed
