Hey, I was just wondering if I could get som advice. I'm really wanting to lose some weight I've been eating better but I really want to exercise mainly running but I'm not sure how it will work when I can barely walk upstairs without struggling to breath. Has anyone got any tips on ways to exercise without having an attack? Thanks.

Exercise
Have you tried weight lifting? Can be a good way to lose body fat. Swimming is a great way to exercise. Maybe try things like Yoga if you don't want to get too breathless.
Walking is one of the best exercises and is free! Start slowly and build up to what you want to achieve. We have free walking groups in our area and you can walk with other people. Tai Chi is good as well and Pilates.
Hi,
I have tried running before but can't get very far without having to take my inhaler and coming home. The only thing that worked for me is run a lamppost walk one (basically run/walk/run). Although when it's cold out I can't even do that!
Instead of running I now go to the gym and do fast/slow exercise. Some exercises that work for me: 30 seconds sprint, 30 seconds relaxed for a max of 5 minutes on a crosstrainer. Fast walk up to max incline and back down 3 times on a treadmill. Imbetween this I do sit ups, leg raises, planks etc. To get my breath back.
So in an hour I probably do 20/30 mins cardio but not for more than 5 mins at a time.
I also take two puffs before exercising, which I find helps.
I hope this helps.
Speak to your nurse first so you have all the facts re:inhalers and starting new exercise.
You may have a local NHS couch to 5k group, or Sweatshop running community do a build up group too.
There on some articles on runner world re: running with asthma. Be careful in the cold weather though!
