I suffer from PSVT. A fast heart rate for which I take beta blockers. I am also asthmatic. When I have to use Ventolin I find this interfere with my heart rhythm. When I mentioned this to my doctor they said that I would have to be using Ventolin a lot to do this. Just wondered what your thoughts are on this?

PSST and Ventolin
Got to say I feel like that too - don't quite know how much it affects my heart rhythm or for how long. I do find that so long as I take ventolin less than 3 times a day this doesn't happen it is only when I have to take it a lot. As you have a heart problem I would have a chat with your heart consultant about this as he would probably know more about it I would think. Ring the BLF helpline 03000 030 555 and speak to one of the nurse on there about it too. Wehn I ws given Ventolin or salbutamol tablets many, many years ago I noticed this too but probably haven't had those since 1985!
Is it the heart rate or the rhythm that changes when you take ventolin? Tachycardia is a well known side effect of ventolin and I don't think you need that much. I have a congenital heart defect and find that all relievers increase my heart rate but Ventolin is the worse. I find Bricanyl is better but it only comes as a turbohaler so I have to have ventolin for severe attacks. When I am on news, my heart rate can be well over 150 bpm. I have never thought it to be the cause of a change in rhythm though (which I do get as part of the heart condition). If you are under the care of a cons I would speak to them (my cardio and reap team are quite good at talking to each other if I have any concerns/questions).
Thanks guys. Seems it's not just me then. Seeing my doctor on Fri. So will mention this again.
