Hi Blondee.
I have exactly the same thing and often cough continuously for an hour or more when my asthma is poorly controlled - maybe after having a cold or in response to a trigger (walking into Boots will do it - why do they always have to put the perfume at the front of the shop?) and this can happen several times a day at shorter and shorter intervals, depending on the level of exposure to a trigger or the severity of my cold. Ventolin doesn't really have much effect on it so the usual answer is to increase my preventer.
When your asthma is properly under control this shouldn't happen to you so if you haven't already discussed it with your asthma nurse it would be a good idea to do that soon and get it sorted out.
Good luck with it.
Thanks for replying Annista I have just had my new preventer inhaler with an AeroChamber inhaler being Seretide also a nasal spray Nasofan so will give it some time maybe till new year I have feeling it wont work been on the inhaler 3 and a half weeks expected to feel better than I do. Will see asthma nurse in new year
I have no idea what sparks my spasm cough off it can happen just sat on the computer I cannot even use my Brycanyl when I am coughing it comes on so fast just like something has gripped my throat so cannot take a breath in till I have finished coughing in which case I get to a retching stage before I can speak it really worries me as to when it will ever stop
I know - it's horrible and you kind of feel as if you're drowning, you ache all over and eventually you feel as if somebody has sandpapered the inside of your lungs. I have recently discovered the joys of a salt cave - it doesn't stop me coughing but it does make me more comfortable.
I have never heard of this so looked it up on the internet looks interesting my nearest is 200 mls away so looked at other options to do with salt and you can buy it with a spacer wonder if it would work the same
Hi I know its a shot in the dark but having my asthmatic daughter just recently diagnosed with whooping cough it may be worth you looking into if coughing spasms are unusual for you for two months my daughter was treated for severe asthma until finally diagnosed. Its been roughand still is...but iI'm told that the vaccine wanes over the years and also there is a new strain since 2012... Asthmatics are more prone to wwhooping cough... Just a thought.
Hi bigdogruby thanks for your post but I have had the blood test for whooping cough and it isnt, t there ia a 1-10 variant which decides what cough it is Whooping cough is 9 and I was a 7 so close but not close enough, funnily touch wood the spasms stopped about a week ago just left me with a throaty ruttling cough was bringing up mucus on a morning with a good cough but stopped bringing it up a couple of days ago just coughing now sound like a woman on 40 Woodbines if you know what they are thing is I have never had a cigarette in my life but live with a smoker have done for 42 yrs and was brought up with 2 parents smoking too of course he is banned from the house to smoke his cigar but I still wonder if it affects me
Hi Blondee
That's good about the whooping cough but still doesn't help you..im sorry to hear your still suffering... Yes it could be that it still affects you? Everyone has different triggers I do hope you get well soon. Its awful watching my daughter struggle with asthma and whooping cough. Good luck and good health for you in the future.
Thanks hope we all have a better 2015
Does anyone have the main symptom of asthma as the cough and phlegm if it wasn't for this I wouldnt be too bad, on loads of meds seems like just for a cough, yes I wheeze and my consultant says its definitely asthma had the cough now since June 2014 seems no end to it fed up ! I seem to cough all day long but funnily enough not in bed at night
My sympathies. I tend to get spasm cough during viral infections, and it usually leaves me shaking, as well as feeling breathless and exhausted. I'm never certain whether it's the asthma or the virus because although my peak flow does dip at such times, it's not usually by much.
