anything but prednisolone!

Hi, I'm a newbie, my daughter is 5 and has always suffered with wheezing and asthma symptoms although she has never had an ""attack"" as such.

My daughter is on Seretide, Flixotide and Montelukast and cetirizine, we have just come back from the docs with a course of pred, does anyone else's children turn in to angry violent monsters on pred, my daughter does and it always ends in tears, mine and hers .

With all the drugs she's on surely she shouldn't't need these courses of pred and actually I'm wondering if it's asthma at all and not something else....

I feel upset and confused that my daughter especially have to go through this pred cloud again...

I can completely empathise with your plight!! It's awful watching your child suffer and then on top of it, they turn into monsters and it's tough to deal with!!

My little girl is 5 too and takes oral steroids daily. I Went through all the same questions....surely it can't just be asthma?!! But after heaps of tests, it is definitely asthma!!

Asthma is an incredibly underestimated condition. Most people see it as a blue inhaler and all is well, but for many it's a lot more complex than that.

Does she need pred courses often?? Is she under a consultant?? Does she have admissions??

You are probably exhausted too and that's not helping the way you are feeling right now. It's often a battle that leads to a course of pred in children, so take care of you too.

This is a great forum and somewhere you can definitely come to let off steam and receive a cyber hug.

We have a consultant for her allergies who is also one of the respiratory consultants so she was the one who added in the serotide, we have had a few hospital admissions and a visit to resus...

I was told that Maisie had developed quite an ""asthma chest"" on our last visit... I don't suppose you know what that is??

In fairness she has only had steroids a couple of times this year...

My GP says that Maisie will be well controlled when she no longer needs her ventolin top ups throughout the day... I sort of laughed!!

I sort of laughed!!nnnAsthma chest is where the chest appears concave from being underdeveloped and having poor basilar lung ventilation.. It is seen in adult sufferers as well.nnThe medical term is Pectus excavatum (sunken chest).
