Yoga?

Hi, I might be clutching at straws here but doing lots of reading and internet searching while stuck at home.

Do any of you lovely ladies or gents do yoga? If so do you think it helps with your breathing or control over asthma?

Hi Lisa

I tried yoga for a couple of months to see if it would help with my asthma but I personally found it very tiring and some of the positions were very uncomfortable, however it does involve some breathing techniques which I found helped to clear my chest but overall it was to much for me so I now do Pilates every Tuesday which I have found to be a lot more gentle.

But i think it's definitely worth giving it a go and seeing how you find it, some people say you are either a yoga or a Pilates person.

I've been to a pilates class this week and thought it was really good. Not been able to do usual exercise routine after chest infection etc so wondered if this would be ok.

Breathing technique helped calm rhythm but was tired after 45 mins. Just take pump with you & let leader know.

Hi :)

I've never tried yoga, but I'm obsessed with pilates and sometimes do exercises that overlap. I actually started doing pilates when I had a bad flare up and couldn't exercise. I'm a little gym bunny at heart and not being able to go drove me crazy! I gave pilates a go and found it really helps. You can adapt your moves to how you're feeling and do it from home so when you reach your limit you can just stop. I love the blogilates videos on youtube. I find pilates intense but very effective!

These exercises are great because you have to regulate your breathing but don't get out of breath. I think it has had a good impact on my asthma, though hayfever has also started to go so I can't say it's just pilates! Definitely worth a try!

I found yoga to help with my breathing and it can strengthen core muscles which is good. It teaches you to breath properly ie like a baby would and inflate down through your belly and not out of your chest. I dont currently have the time to do it but I certainly will be looking into it again soon. If you do give it a try find a teacher who is certified by I think it is called the yoga circle but I may be wrong... it means the teacher is a good standard and takes CPD each year so should be knowledgable about different breathing techniques.

Hope this helps
