Keep your rooms as clean as possible. Sleep with a duvet not blankets. Avoid cats, dogs, furry creatures. If you can move to the coast do so. The air is cleaner from the sea breezes. ( or move to high altitudes, the air is thinner and cleaner and easier to breathe.) I use honey for a sweetener in my tea when necessary, it cleans the lungs, likewise don't neglect potatoes, the starch cleans and the protein gives you the strength to make the diaphragm work. I'm nor being unkind but avoid frizzy haired people, it has a psychosomatic effect that produces asthmatic symptoms due to subconscious anxiety. Yoga breathing exercises also help, calms the mind removing tension and anxiety which can exacerbate the attack. Eat plenty of vegetables and fresh salads, avoid fattening foods. If you're musical take up a wind instrument, the blowing process gets the impurities out of your lungs and makes the diaphragm work better, I play a sax. Get as much advice as possible from your clinic's asthma nurse.......Breathe easy.

Hiya! Welcome! My first point is don't be scared by the things you read on here, ere are quite a few severe asthmatics on here, we are not the norm! The vast vast majority of asthmatics are very well controlled as long as they take their preventative medication. The oral steroid tablets you've been prescribed are very effective and that's probably why you're feeling so much better. Make sure to take your brown inhaler even when you are feeling well, it takes about two weeks to fully build up in your lungs and so you can't just take it when you get I'll. a lot of asthmatics only have problems very occasionally, hopefully this will be the case for you, but do keep your blue inhaler on you, just in case!!

I'm sure your GP practice will have an asthma nurse. It might be an idea to book an appointment wih her in a week or so to make sure that you are improving as you should be, she will also be able to check you are using your inhalers effectively, discuss any side effects, possibly give you an asthma action plan and peak flow meter to help you monitor any worsening of at toons you experience. Just an idea, whilst it is likely that your asthma won't cause significant impact on your daily life, it is worth being proactive about managing and understanding asthma which will help you to ensure you are keeping as well as possible.

Also worth noting that high altitude can make breathing symptoms worse due to e thinner air and less oxygen. And I have never heard anything about avoiding people with frizzy hair, or even that this can cause any subconscious anxiety! The human. Rain is incredibly good at picking out other humans and the human face, and so there is no reason we would associate frizzy hair as being a threat unless we had a specific phobia.

Hope you're still feeling better and things only go up from here :-)

Hi. Firstly welcome and I hope you are continuing to feel better.

Look at getting the diagnosis of having asthma as a positive as it means you will receive the appropriate healthcare now when you are ill.

As said make sure you do take you inhalers, brown, as prescribed. U may find using the 'airospacer' a lot easier to ensure you get the dose in your system correctly, even more so if you need to use your blue inhaler.

Also as suggested, although I would, make an appointment with thrcasthma nurse at GP surgery. She will then do your peak flow to get a good reading to work with then go through using your inhalers etc. You will then be told about having a flu jab and probably a pneumonia jab in Autumn.

So lots for you to take in but also remember, as long as it is stable the worlds your oyster and shouldn't prevent you from doing anything xx

I forgot to add, just because you are asthmatic it doesn't mean you are going to have to get rid of pets or things. With my asthma it was questioned whether I was allergic to my cats etc. My asthma clinic did allergy testing on me, as I have 2 cats. My tests came back all clear re my cats - thankfully.

Remember life is for living :) xx

firstly thank you for all ur helpful tips :) i have an appointment with the asthma nurse in 2 Weeks time i am taking me meds and i am supposed to and feeling better everyday :) again thank you for ur comments :) xx

There are numerous health spas in the Alps of Switzerland & Ausrtria that are a testimony to the benefits of cleaner air at higher altitudes. Athletes also know the benefits of training at higher altitudes. I myself who have been in hospital more that a couple times from severe asthma attacks due sheer to ignorance of it's causes, have climbed in the himalayas to a height of 17,789 ft which was when I got into breathing difficulties, I was o.k. up to 15000 ft.

I'll continue from my previous post.

When you breathe don't hunch the shoulders, relax them as you breathe, you get more air in. Avoid that comfy armchair you can slump down. Sit in a comfortable chair whose height you can adjust, the knees should be slightly lower than the tops of your thighs so as not to impede the breathing process of the thorax.....breathe easy. I can now play the Bb on a tenor sax for longer. Straight haired or gentle waves have a more relaxing effect on me.....breathe easy.
