symbicort turbohaler 200/6 clicking error please help!

My nurse has put me on the Symbicort AIR regime and it’s going really well. However something in my head told me this morning that I should be hearing the click on the second turn (when I hear it on the first) I had a look online and watched a few videos and they said the second turn clicks, checked the leaflet and that said it doesn’t matter which way!

Heres the thing - I inhaled a “dose” on the click turn and then turned it again but was a bit iffy about taking a “second dose” in case the first one worked. I know I’m going on but please be patient I’m new to the asthma world having been diagnosed just recently at 43! Basically my turbohaler is sitting here loaded, would it be ok to turn it twice when I next need it? I’ve had dry powder preventers recently for a short time that said returning discards the dose, does the same apply with this? Thank you in advance I suffer from anxiety so I’m stressing myself out about this now. I’m sorry for the long post. Thank you

I think the first time you use it you need to click it twice. (it says in the leaflet it doesnt matter which way it turns).

but yes, i think mine usually clicks on the second twist.

You could take it to your pharmacy and ask someone to check it for you?

As far as I understand it, it doesn't matter when it clicks, either on the turn or on the return. If you don't use it immediately I would reload it. I understand that that wouldn't give you a double dose.

Yeah, i used to worry if I forgot if ive clicked it or not, but clicking extra times wont reload it, until you've inhaled it.

What an interesting question, so much so that I decided to take one apart to see how it worked. And guess what? - I still have absolutely no idea! So I defer to the others who have suggested that you can only get one dose, however many times you turn it (that seems to be borne out by a perforated circular plate in the mechanism, which could deliver a fixed dose, but not allow further doses until empty).

However, that said, I wouldn’t get too hung up on specific doses - this is not an exact science. Different individuals will react differently to different inhalers and different doses, even if they have the same level of lung dysfunction, so there’s a lot of trial and error in this. Also, the 200/60 version is a low dose, and an extra dose is unlikely to do any harm; and, whist “clicking” on the first or second turn doesn't matter (so long as you turn both ways), I sometimes think that it hasn’t loaded properly (because I can’t taste it), but have never had any problems as a result, or from doubling up doses.

The fact that it’s going well for you is the real issue, so long may it continue!

Not what you're looking for?
