I have recently been diagnosed with cough variant asthma.
I don't know much about it, apart from what my GP has told me.. I know there are probably many other here with it too! Which makes me feel better because I don't feel alone! Obviously symptoms are different for everybody.
I'm just a little anxious about it.. having to take an inhaler, etc.
I'm not a wheezer, just have a cough and produce a lot of phlegm. I have been diagnosed with it because I have a cough & cold and obviously the asthma is worse when I have this.
To me, I show no symptoms of asthma.. just having a cough? I thought this was just a common cough that comes with a cold.
I'm really nervous and actually quite upset that I have been diagnosed with asthma..
So any kind words and support would be much appreciated.
It is upsetting when you get a diagnosis of asthma and it does take a bit of getting used to. It took me a long time to accept that it wasn't going to go away!!
The most important thing is to get your asthma under control. Many GPs dont recognise cough variant ashtma so it is good that your GP recognised it. Try not to worry about using your inhaler, it should help. It is worth knowing that getting your treatment right can take a while, what works for some doesn't work for others. You understand your lungs better than anyone so see how you get on with your inhaler and if it doesn't seem to be helping go back to your GP and discuss the alternatives. Try and focus on the things you can do not the things you can't and be kind to yourself.
If you need more info about your asthma the Asthma UK nurses are really helpful and reassuring.
