New job and neb.

Hi everyone,

I finally managed to log on after the switchover. How is everyone? I just started a new job, working with children with cancer, which seems like a better match, although still challenging. It involves a lot of walking. I'm glad, because it keeps me moving, but that is challenging too depending on what kind of day I'm having. So I told my new supervisor I will need to use my nebulizer at work at times. She was nice about it, but said she would find out how I could have some privacy. I was a bit put off, as privacy is a nice idea, but if I'm expected to walk to the other side of the building where I work to use the neb...not really such a great idea if I'm having a hard day.

Then there's today. I've been taking a very high dose of inhaled steorids to avoid oral pills, which has been helping. My specialist said to go down on them in June, but I was going to wait until I saw him, which was supposed to be Wednesday. But then he cancelled and rescheduled in two weeks. Well, I went down, to my normal dose, as my face is definitely round, and I'm bruising more easily among other things. Well, totally am having an asthma attack today. I took my rescue inhalers, and they helped some, but I'm getting that lovely tightness.

So anyways I'm wondering if I should increase my preventer again until I see him in two weeks. Oh, I've also not been sleeping well and suspect it's due to the steroid. Or just show up tomorrow with my neb. I mean they're going to have to know sometime.

Hi BeeThere,

Congratulations on the new job!

I would just take your nebuliser in with you and they will soon get used to seeing you with it. It is better than suffering at work.

Regarding your preventer, I would take the higher dose until you see your consultant as it is only 2 weeks and at least it can be doing something whilst you are waiting to see him.

Thanks for the good luck! So far it's going well. I think it will be a bit stressful until I get used to it, but at least I like it, and it seems like a good fit!

Thanks for the advice about just using what I need to at work. I think that is the best thing, but I was trying to run this dilemma by my best friend, and she just didn't understand. I thought you guys would get it. Sorry I've been scarce. I did come back to see what you posted, and used the advice...but have just been swamped with new job stuff.

Anyways, I hope everyone is having a good Summer!

Cheers,

Bee
