ok, i'm back at my parents now and there is no smoking, pet dander and the place is dusted everyday, yet my asthma is worse than it has been in a while. when i'm at mikes, the symptoms improve slightly, is it just me or does it sound like i'm dependant on the triggers that made me this bad in the first place, or am i going crackers again

Maybe not all of your triggers are the obvious smoking and pet dander. One small thing on the old house dust. The thing we all re-act to is the house dust mite poo! And that tends to collect old carpets and on old bedding. My grandmothers house was spotless when I was child no dust anywhere but I slept on the old sofa cushions on the floor when I was about 5 and oh boy was ill in the night they must have been chock full of HDM and their poo! If your matress is under a year old and not got a proper protector on it, chuck it and get a new one and put a proper protector on it. All your bedding duvet, pillows etc either need to be washed at above 60 degress or replaced, carpets can be proffesionally steam cleaned to kill the HDM's and get rid of their poo or replaced with laminate flooring. Also the higher your bed the better as the HDM and their poo tend to float around 2ft and below so the further away from that the better. Do you have soft toys around, if so select your favourite and pop it into a freezer bag and bung in the freezer for 48 hours. The rest either get rid of or bag up and stick in the loft!
Could it be bathroom cleaners or air fresheners, some hidden pot of pot porri or something. Perfume and deoderant perhaps just a new smell around you a lot might trigger things off as family members to switch to no perfume, afterhave and use un scented roll on deoderant see if that helps.
Two other things before you go out and buy a new matress, throw away the old teddy bear, and ban Mums favourite scent, remember it has been very thundery and certainly down here the air has often been like treacle so maybe that is causing the problems and you have been through some emotional unheaval so all of those might be why you are having trouble.

all that is possible. the beds quite high up and the bedding, new. mum bunged my old teddies in the washing machine and the carpet has certainly seen better days LOL, the thunder here has been pretty mild really.
see the HDM problem is actually worse at mikes house, nothing ever really gets washed that much but there is barrier covers on the bed
thanks for those suggestions, i will be picking up a set of barrier sheets today for my bed and vaccuming everything, including the mattress
Don't you vacumn the bed get someone else to do it for you! You need to wash things at 60 degrees to kill the HMD and get rid of their poo, most cuddlies won't take a 60 degree wash Best to select your favourites and go for the deep freeze method. You have to be cruel to be kind!

ps if the carpets are old probably best not crawl about them too much
i think my mum did it when she put the bed back in here awhile back. to be fair the old teddy bear wont last another year, prob best to heave ho sadly, only got taz here, all my others at mikes (by his request). i dusted this afternood and it feels better
