Securing inhaler when climbing

In a few weeks, I am going to be going on a Tall Ship for 10 days, and we are encouraged to go aloft (climb up the mast where the sails are). Everything we take up must be securely fastened on - my camera and glasses I can manage, but how can I fasten my inhaler down? I could just zip it into my pocket, but then it means that I am just holding it and there is the risk of dropping it. My arms could be quite weak after climbing up, so dropping it would be more likely. So really it needs to be on a lanyard or something. But how?

I go surfing and I use the waterproof Aquapac - it is a plastic pouch with a safety fastening and a cord which you can tie around the wrist or ankle.

I think they were designed to hold car keys when you do watersports but I find they are perfect for holding my emergency asthma inhaler. They do bigger ones for ipods or cameras that can hold several inhalers.

I put my inhaler and car keys into one, attach the cord around my wrist and then tighten it with the grip and go surfing. Should be ideal on the rigging.

I play and am on committee of a marching band, we have quite a few asthmatics myself included. This year we have purschased some 'Puffa Pouches' these hold the inhaler and go round your neck with a quick release clip, it can simply be pulled to realease cord or just leave fastened and remove cover and use as usual. They fit neatly under the uniform but easy to get at for use.

My daughter has tried hers out whilst out cycling and running and loves it, says it's just there, no fishing around for it.

Drill a small hole in the inhaler case and clip a lanyard through it, or even tape a lanyard to the outside. Secure it to the actual inhaler, and not the cap, as the cap will do less damage dropped from height! Obviously the lanyard/bungee needs to be long enough from wherever it's clipped to you to reach your mouth! (I'm sure no one would do this, but don't go near your inhaler with a drill when the canister is in it!) Do you have an MDI inhaler? It would be harder with a turbohaler - I think you'd have to somehow tape/glue a lanyard to the bottom.

When rock climbing I have a chalk bag with a zip up pocket in the bottom, to put it in, but it does get a bit chalky.

Uses a Ventolin-sized cannister, not the shorter, stubbier ones. It has a holder with a belt clip, but the inhaler body also has a loop for a lanyard attachment. It's sealed too, keeps the pocket lint out a treat. I find it a little more awkward to use than a standard inhaler, but not too bad.

I also like and use the sports haler for running and cycling, but clipping it to my belt means it tends to go with me most of the time, also at the end of the pool swimming on a drinks bottle with an elastic band around it.
