New GP help..

Just wondering if anyone can tell me how you can establish if a doctor’s surgery is any good or not as I am currently in the process of a possible move. I have found gp practices within the locality of possible new homes and further away, but how do you tell if these are any good in relation to asthma and other lung condition. And also in general terms especially with children. I have looked up the nhs site about GP surgery but it is down at the present. one house is right next door virtually to the house (maybe this is too close!! ) any help appreciated

Kingd regards Jaycie

I think you need to register with one and then see what they're like. You can always change to a different surgery if you're not happy. My surgery has a nurse practitioner, who looks after the asthma clinic but she also can prescribe aswell. I have found her support invaluable and she has been much more help with my asthma than any of the GP's. She is easy to talk to and can usually see you the same day if your asthma is getting worse. Maybe try to see if they provide this service.

In our area your lucky if can find one with space to register you without having to ring some helpline to be allocated anywhere!
