This year I attempted to be proactive. I diligently took 14 days’ worth of peak flows, and I completed an online EConsult form which has an Annual Asthma Review page. I was hoping that this would result in a response saying nothing more than ‘thank you - no change’. My wife was convinced that I was wasting my time.
This morning I received a letter from my Surgery asking me to complete the enclosed Asthma Diary (sadly, one wasn’t enclosed) so that they could see the ‘patter’ of my peak flows. I have now sent them the information online as last year my hand-submitted diary never reached my medical records. My wife has now doubled her bet and she reckons that I will get another letter asking me to make a review appointment.
If the Health Sec reckons she can digitise GP services then she faces a big challenge. The system is not for changing.

I have had one check of my inhaler technique in 40 years. All recent reviews have been carried out over the phone. Fortunately, my asthma is very mild and well controlled, and I was able to fly passenger aircraft for 20+ years without restriction.
