Hi,
I just had a thought, is there a best way of sleeping when asthma isn't behaving?
Is there a best position or do different people have different ways?

hi,
em...i think evryone is probably different. i cant tolerate lying flat at all even when chest os eing behaved so i sleep with a wedge under my matress and then a whole load of pillows arranged at different angles to keep me nice and up right. I sleep as though im sitting in a chair. i find it the comfiest way.

Hi Moose1
I personally find lying upright as possible easier asthma wise, I use several pillows and a some of them arranged differently so that I'm almost in a sitting position but its not very comfortable I end up sinking down my pillows lol and waking up in a bit of a state. I prefer to sleep on my side.

hi moose1
I find it the same as most folks sitting as upright as possible or being propped up in bed is best! I have tried wedge pillows in the past and didnt get on to well with them then did the whole adjusting my pillows at various angles etc to be propped up but would wake up after a little while chesty as i would be lying flat again after fidgiting in bed and moving the pillows.
I recently bought myself an adjustable bed which has been a total God send! I find now that i can get myself comfortable to sleep at the same time as being in a asthma friendly posture too!
Good luck and take care hope this helps. Lv kat Xx
I seem here to be agreeing with the majority, when my asthma is giving me a good kicking and I want to go to sleep, my partner piles pillows up against the wall and lets me sleep in an upright position until I can lay down comfortably without another wheeze-fest.
Can only acho what Kat said buy an adjustable bed, it is by far and away the best thing I bought. would even rank it above my omron. I did not know how badly I slept until I had good nights sleep. I had tried wedges, pillows and recliner type gadget but I always ended up fall off off or sliding down the bed the adjustable bed lets me raise my legs a bit so I don't go slipping down the bed. I would not swap it for anything.
I have put a wheelchair cusion under my head end of my matterous and then use four pillows and finally a V shaped cushion so i am pretty much sat up.
Hi,
When poorly always upright balanced on a sea of cushions!
The rest of the time I sleep with 1 teeny pillow, on my tummy with the bed head tilted down (by raising bed ends) this means head is lower than my feet. It sounds weird and did take a little while to adjust to. I did it on the advice on the respiratory physio as it means my chest drains (I have bronchiectasis) overnight. It saves me ages in chest physio.
Ooh and the cat sleeps on my feet!
