been on an 11hr shift(domicilary care) today and had an asthma attack halfway through. I was working with a colleague and we left a clients house then it started in the car while I was driving.
My throat tickled for a few seconds then my throat felt as if it swelled up, then coughing and even wheezing(I'm usually a non-wheezer).
I took my reliefer but didn't help much and I felt so embarrassed in front of my colleague!
I had to get 1.5hrs of work covered, couldn't go home as 10 miles away, so stayed at my friends house to get sorted. Didn't wanna go to a&e but used my friends mum's nebs as I knew I needed it.
Felt better after and daft me went back to work for 4hrs after.
Still shaking and feel as if there's trapped air everywhere around my ribs as aching, so is my chest.
Have had a chest infection for 5 weeks now, been on steroid and antibiotics, pf still only 60% but started feeling better last couple of days and then this!!
The client I went to for 30mins has a dog. I noticed my eyes burning in there. Could the dog be a trigger even if I was only in there for 30mins? Last allergies test from 2004 said I wasn't allergic to cats or dogs but could it have changed? Or am I over sensitive after the chest infection?
You should have gone to A+E, never ever you someone elses medication thats prescribed for them, yes you may have known you needed a neb but that is what A
Sorry to hear you have been poorly,
You should have gone to A+E, never ever use someone elses medication thats prescribed for them, yes you may have known you needed a neb but that is what A+E is for, its presrcibed for them for a reason.
It could have been the dog, see your gp and ask for further allergy tests. Other than that maybe an 11 hour shift was too much when your poorly.
Clare
Hi Clare,
I know you're probably right I know I shouldn't use someone elses meds but I hate hospitals, they keep me in longer than I want etc. I knew it was same meds and dosage as I would have got in hospital anyway or I wouldn't have taken it.
I have to be half dead to be wanting or accepting to go to a&e I'm a silly bugger.
Will go to see my nurse on Monday and talk about it all and get tested for allergies.
Still got pain in chest now but usually get that after an attack.
I'm really sick of myself! But then I know there's people worse off than me so I shouldn't moan really.
Thanx for your reply
hope you're keeping well
love Lydia x
Seen asthma nurse
Due to the recent bad do at work I've just been to see my nurse. Going for a chest xray later, getting bloods taken and referral to allery specialist so I'm hoping to get my control back soon. I'm on step 4 now, not good, and if it's pets that's bothering me well then at least I can avoid them.
