Just wondered.... had the flu jab & pneumo jab (never had the pneumo jab before) on Saturday morning - neither hurt at the time. Anyway, my arm where I had the pneumo one is really sore - its bright red, hot to the touch, theres a hard lump about the size of an egg & the skin feels like I've got really bad sunburn on it & I cant bear even any clothes touching it. I also cant lift my arm up above my head without it being really painful. Is this normal or should I get it checked out - dont want to bother the docs if it is normal? Can I put anything on my skin that might take the swelling down like germolene or something - its driving me mad! Thanks!
I would get it checked out - it sounds like it could be infected. I wouldn't put anything on it without seeing your doctor first.
Hope you feel better soon

pneumonia jab
hi,
I had the pneumo jab a few years ago and my arm went the same way. My gp said it was a reaction to the metal in the needle and suggested a cold compress, which worked. The good news is the pneumonia jab last 10 years, so you wont need another one for awhile!
I've had the same experience as you... pneumonia jab Saturday morning and the same symptoms started within hours....
Just like to ask - did you do anything about it, and what is it like now....?
The redness has gone from mine but my arm aches all the way down to my fingers now and even my armpit is sore....

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the advice. I called the telephone doc at my surgery. He said that I'd just had a reaction to it & it was quite common. It still hurts now but not as bad as it was - I can sleep on that side now where I couldnt even bear clothes touching it before. He told me to put a cold compress on it to take the heat away & use some antiseptic cream just incase there was anything going on so I put a bit of savlon on it.
I would call your telephone doc & see what he suggests to you as your reaction seems to be quite a lot more severe & I'm not sure we've reacted in the same way especially since we had the jab the same day & mine is significantly better & yours still hurts - I never had pains down my arms or anything it was very localised to where the actual jab was - you might have an infection or something? Hope it starts to feel better.
Hey,
Sorry bit off topic but quick question, how often are you supposed to get a pneumo jab? I had one when I was about 15, is it every 5 years??
Thanks
Tks xx

Hi!
Was told it was every 8-10 years depending on levels in your blood - I dont know what levels they were talking about though.
