Husband has tablets for his diabetes. Check up today, Blood test results showed reading of 9. Given swine flu jab in one arm and flu jab in other. Nurse said as diabetic, he could have pneumonia jab too. Er, no thanks.
I'm on here to ask if anyone else has been offered a pneumonia jab? Is it just for diabetics?
The pneumonia jab protects you against one form of pneumonia pneumococcal and is offered to anyone with chronic medical conditions. It used to be a 10 yearly jab but i think now one jab protects you for life.
?????? = no-one really knows, is the truth, but some say 10 years
Re ?????????? ( Ten?) number of years for pneumonia protection. I truly hope so. This 'protective' injection - so far - is the only one to have caused some side effects, none of which were long lasting apart from localised pain still felt in upper arm some three years later.
On the bright side I haven't developed pneumonia despite similar pneumonia symptoms appearing when very symptomatic with asthma and cold symptoms and a depressed immune system re long term use of maintenance oral steroids
Grannymo the offer of a pneumonia vaccination SHOULD target all those who suffer from chronic conditions because the immune system is always compromised by the symptoms associated with chronic disease.
Mia
when i got it last year i was told it would last 10 years
my nurse also told me it protcts against viral meningitis i think it was aswell
