ventolin and sleepless nights

Does anyone know if copius amounts of ventolin ( 2-3 puffs every 4 hrs) causes insomnia? I ve had difficulty sleeping since needing this much ventolin for almost a week. Thank you :)

Hi Jasmine,

Maybe it's the symptoms which makeyou need Ventolin which are keeping you awake rather than the drug? Or maybe both? Just a thought as I usually find if I have night symptoms I stay awake until the Ventolin has done its job then usually manage to get back to sleep. Everyone is different though.

Have you seen GP or asthma nurse recently though as night symptoms strongly suggest lack of control over asthma? Sorry if this is obvious and you are onto it already!

Dear Philomela,

Thank you for your response, well to be quite honest I havent yet been in too see my GP, I m a tab bit nervous and avoid that at all costs. My allergies are quite awful so its been causing my asthma to flare up I think, its been a little over a week and I cant do much without having the ventolin every 4 hrs, and the moment its wares off I m quite breathless and tight. I m tired of my asthma really, I ve had it since I was 2 and I m now in my early 20's and really am quite fed up of it, so much for the notion of out growing it * sorry for the rant* Thank you for your kind words. Do have a pleasant night.

Cheers

I find that I can't sleep after having ventolin even if my asthma clears up. I would however put this down to anxiety and the thought of needing it again but being too asleep to know.

Sorry it's not much help,

Zippi

Just a brief update, finally after much hesitation went along to the doctor today, apparently my asthma is terribly uncontrolled and i ve been put on symbicort 2 puffs twice a day for the rest of the year, in addition to the ventolin when needed. Any adverse effects of Symbicort? I have noticed tremors in my hands and it leaves a distinct taste in my mouth. Thank you in advance. Have a pleasant night.
