ventolin with counter ?

Am I the only one who wish they would make ventolin with a counter, its certainly possible as they make seretide with one, but ventolin would make more sense, as it's not frequently used, and difficult to keep track of.

i think its a great idea! Think they should do it on all inhalers as its helpful to keep up with your meds especially when if your like me you loose track of your days lol!!

Why did they only do it on one inhaler-anyone know why?

Yes, my thoughts exactly. When after shaking there doesn't seem to be much in and the inhalation doesn't seem to be so strong have started on a new inhaler to be on the safe side but don't like the idea of wasting any. If you put 'empty' in keyword there are a few posts on this subject. Philbert's asthma nurse showed him a way to be sure but as he says you end up with wet inhalers!

Regards

does that per chance involve sinking the metal bit in a bowl of water and seeing if it floats or sinks (like testing if an egg is bad or not!!?)

it does work floats when empy sinks when full but as said does involve soggy inhalers!!

I pondered this a while back,my main question was ;even if it is not ""empty"",how do you know if you are still getting active ingredient and not just a puff of propellant-you can certainly get more than 200 actuations but is it medication or just gas?-and if they want you to stick to 200 doses then a counter would surely be logical-can you remember how many doses you have had-I,m not that organised to be able to remember !

I've become quite good at making a note of the usage, I use a piece of software to record the peak flows daily, and enter along with that the medication usage, so it's easy to quickly look and work out, but does require you being organised. the software is free, and does the job, printing peak flow graphs etc, its not perfect, but for free i'm not complaining (asthma assistant)

They do, the Acchuler!

Katina you beat me too it, the accuhaler has a counter on it. I find it really useful.

I,ve never been offered an Accuhaler despite bringing up the ""problem"" of dosage counting-worthwhile querying the asthma clinic perhaps??

All of the accuhalers and the disk halers do have counters because they have individual contained doses in little blisters.

These are dry powder inhalers and contain lactose as a carrier for the drug.

some people are unable to use these because of the powder / lactose or the lack of suck needed to use them though they are much easier to use than the turbohalers. Also they can be ruined if dropped in water whereas an MDI aerosol inhaler can be used as long as you have shaken the water out or allowed to dry!

You cant use spacers with powder inhalers as they are breath actuated.

I wonder why they made seretide Evohaler only with a counter? .... Me thinks it has something to to with patient compliance!!

kate you could be on to something there re patient compliance! Obviously people use their reliever inhaler with ease whereas steroid inhalers are a little harder to hdu used to due to side effects i do think all aerosol inhalers should have the counter on them now seeing as it is possible to do. I personally dont hdu on too well with dry powder inhalers i persevere with the oxis turbohaler as its the only one i use that is powdered and it is good even if the powder annoys my throat. Not willing to change all inhalers to powder ones tho eew!

Thanks tho lv kat Xx
