I've been diagnosed with asthma and had a small attack last night, due to the cold but was discharged by the Dr at the hospital and told I wasn't having an asthma attack!

This is something you will have to go back and ask your doctor, of course being prescribed inhalers this might be a possibility. We are not allowed to give medical advice or diagnosis on this message board, the majority of the users of the message board are not medically qualified, and even if we all were to give someone a diagnosis online would be irresponsible. I suggest you get in touch with Asthma Nurses at Asthma UK, who can provide you with information and support and how to approach your GP with the straight answer you would like.
Cheers Katina
Hi!
I just wanted to add that I can't say if you have asthma....but I do think that part of the diagnosis process (or one of the ways to get diagnosed) is to take inhalers for several weeks and to see if they help and if you breathing gets better.

hi -welcome to the forum. as the others have said medical progs can not be given by anyone on here, we just offer each other support and advice from personal experience. your doc or gp nurse will be able to help with any questions and will be able to refer you for a diagnosis if they think it is asthma. however one thing i will add from personal experience is that warm humid weather is a trigger for my attacks, along with other extremes of weather.
Hi and Thankyou for the replies. I'm not asking for a diagnosis I'm just confused that my GP is not giving me straight information. I am getting better slowly with the new inhaler and using the ventolin as well. Thanks again
I understand the need for you to want to know - trust me, I have been working through a series of instructions on a completely different diagnosis etc.... but to be honest the GP may really not know at this stage and your friend is trying to be a friend for you and tell you what you want to hear rather than what is. For at this stage it could be too soon.
There are numerous illnesses that leave the chest weak for some time but fully recover in which case you wont have asthma necessarily and it be wrong to treat you for asthma if its Pluressy etc. Ask your GP about a breathing test. That is one way of determining asthma. It really is one of those times just have to be patient.
This isn't what you want to hear - I know. Good luck and hopefully you will find out in time one way or the other. Any diagnosis as such takes time and its best to work with the GP when one can.
I have now been diagnosed
I went back to my GP, saw a different one and was told I definately have asthma, he gave me some steroids and booked me in with the Asthma Nurse at the practise
