My daughter started xolair a month ago. She is only 10. She is a brittle asthmatic and it is life threatening for her, she has been in and out of HDU for many years now and spends much of the year in hospital. She doesn't like the injections but she sees an improvement in her health so she puts up with it, sometimes her legs are sore afterwards but that's it.

Before she started I would have to nebuliser her roughly around 4 times a night, since she has been on it I haven't had to do this once! Don't get me wrong, it is not a magic cure and she is still wheezy but not to the extent that she was. During the day she used her ventolin less than before though she is still on 10mg of predisolone a day. She was over the moon last week, she had played cricket at school and they were out on the school field, something that they couldn't have done with her before, she came home buzzing saying that she had been perfectly fine and one of the boys had even thrown grass in her face. I was really pleased for her, she did get ill a day later and had to have time off school and is really wheezy today but I would say, on the whole, it is haveing a very possitive impact on her life. It is quite literally life changing, she is now able to go out with her friends and seems to have become more confident too. I know it is early days yet but I remain really hopefull about the outcome for her.

I hope that it all works out ok for you.

Keep us posted. Mel

fingers crossed for you i am due my 3rd injection in a week and have noticed am improvement since 2nd injection and have not needed to ned in night 2 x out of last week. finally some kind of life.

Hi great news and I really hope it works for you. I'm on Xolair and for me it has been life-changing. I've beaten my best peak flow, feel much less symptomatic, and although I'm still on Pred (but hoping to come off it) feel in much better control. I haven't had any hospital admissions since it started working (actually on a record time out of hospital now!) and where I have had dips, these have picked up quickly rather than quickly becoming full-scale life-threatening attacks as sometimes used to happen. The best thing for me has been being able to get back to exercise, I can swim most days without too many problems. Also, I've been able to plan a holiday, I'm going in 6 weeks and really looking forward to it - I never ever thought this would be possible.

I do get a sore arm after the treatment and feel absolutely exhausted to the point of finding it difficult to function, and for those few days I question whether I'm doing the right thing, but looking overall at the bigger picture I know how beneficial this has been.
