Royal Brompton admission

My wife has been going to the Brompton for over forty years, mainly as an outpatient, and once or twice a year as an in-patient. My wife gets periods when her asthma goes from ""normal"", which all asthma sufferers know is still suffering, to very bad or extremely bad. It is at the Brompton that she has the best relief from her problems. They have, over the years, been at the forefront of any new asthma treatments, and have the most expert staff in the UK, possibly the best in the World. She knows she will never be cured, unless some miracle cure appears, but she always comes out of the Brompton far better than she went in. I am sure you will agree once you have been in.

Best of luck with your admission and treatment.

Edward.

I did the RBH difficult protocol admission last year. I had lots of blood / allergy tests, bone density scan, sleep study, excercise tests etc. There was nothing to be concerned about. Take a few books and try to get your own room with the tv ! I was treated very well and the food was good. They didn't find anything new about my asthma and I'm still much the same as before. I'm now awaiting a drug trial later this year. Good Luck.

I am currently in residence on Foulis ward at the RBH. They won't stop any of your meds unless they think it is safe to do so. Many people are on loads of drugs that are doing nothing for them and so they might as well stop taking it. Some people turn out not to have asthma but other conditions that look the same but need very different treatment. Above all don't panic the team here are lovely and are very used to dealing with worried asthmatics.
